Job Description

About Us

New Voices New Orleans (NVNO) is a multi-site children’s and youth chorus serving over 200 singers across six programs at four schools. Our mission is to engage singers throughout the city in dynamic performances that unlock creativity, embolden self-expression, and empower civic voice.

Since 2021, NVNO has prioritized movement training and storytelling within vocal music education, fostering musical literacy and confident performance. Through this innovative approach, our singers become culture-bearers for New Orleans, deeply rooted in intentional community.

Position Overview

NVNO is growing and seeking an energetic, detail-oriented, and highly reliable Communications Coordinator to support our school-based programs and community partnerships. This role works directly with our Founder & Director to keep information clear, timely, and consistent for students, families, and key stakeholders. Think: communications meets program coordination.

The Communications Coordinator plays a hands-on role in day-to-day communications. We’re looking for scrappiness: someone resourceful, proactive, and comfortable working with a start-up style, child-centered organization. You should be an efficient writer, a precise editor, and a thoughtful communicator. Someone who moves quickly, takes initiative, and takes pride in getting things done well, and on time.

This position is part-time for the current season. As NVNO continues to grow, there may be opportunities for the role to expand in scope or hours in future seasons based on organizational needs and individual performance.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Communicate regularly with parents and families using the TalkingPoints app
  • Create and edit flyers, program brochures, and other collateral materials using Canva
  • Design, schedule, and maintain engaging email campaigns, including bi-monthly newsletters and fundraising communications (e.g., GiveNOLA Day, Giving Tuesday)
  • Monitor and post regularly on Instagram; track engagement and report notable outreach to the Founder & Director
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Additional Responsibilities

  • Attend occasional rehearsals and performances to capture photos and video content
  • Align rehearsal and performance schedules across school partners and NVNO stakeholders
  • Provide light administrative or program coordination support as needed

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Genuine interest in working with children and families
  • Comfort using Canva and Google Workspace
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Strong follow-through and responsiveness
  • Eligibility to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of experience in communications, administration, or program support (including seasonal or part-time roles such as summer camp administration)
  • Experience working with children and families in New Orleans
  • Comfort speaking, writing, or editing in Spanish
  • Open-mindedness to learning new competencies (such as using Squarespace for web and email design)
  • Interest in music education and/or choral singing
  • Familiarity with the New Orleans school system

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with leadership
  • Adaptability and problem-solving mindset
  • Professional judgment and discretion

Our Commitment to Inclusion

New Voices New Orleans does not discriminate on the basis of race, age, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, physical or mental disability, or religion.
