Job Description
JOB TITLE: CREW LEADER
REPORTS TO: PROGRAM MANAGER
CLASSIFICATION: FT SALARY/EXEMPT

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Green Corps Crew Leader is responsible for the daily leadership, direction, support and supervision of approximately 10-12 Green Corps members. The Crew Leader serves as a supervisor, motivator, leader, guide, role model, instructor and mentor to the corps members and is responsible for the crew’s overall service performance and safety. The Crew Leader is the primary point of contact for members on their crew and reports to the Louisiana Green Corps Program Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Louisiana Green Corps Program Manager will be responsible for:
- Providing instruction and training to Green Corps crew members
- Leading crew activities, discussions, and reflections that create and maintain crew and program values, respectful interactions, and teamwork.
- Empowering corps members throughout their term, supporting social and emotional growth and workforce development through formal and informal learning.
- Holding corps members accountable to the expectations outlined in the Member Handbook.
- Supporting corps member completion by communicating benchmarks and off-site service opportunities to corps members and conducting performance reviews.
- Collaborating with Supportive Services staff to address barriers to service completion, including physical, social, and emotional well-being.
- Collaborating with the Career Specialist to support members’ post-service plans
- Provide on-site project management and safety compliance, including:
- Coordinating with the Project Management Team to execute daily projects and work orders, including tool, equipment, material management, and van usage.
- Assigning, reviewing, and monitoring on-site schedules, tasks, and responsibilities for corps members; serving alongside corps members as a model and active leader.
- Creating and maintaining a safe service and project environment; consistently monitoring all aspects of corps member safety, including identification and removal of hazards, the mandatory use of personal protective equipment, and recommendations for additional training; providing hands-on guidance as needed.
- Knowing and enforcing all state laws (e.g., wearing seat belts), OSHA, and program safety rules.
- Reporting problems, schedule changes, and other issues to the Program Manager and the appropriate partner personnel.
- Initiating communication for all service injuries and accidents as required by law; completing required paperwork following the workers’ compensation process.
- Providing instruction and training to Green Corps crew members
- Identifying corps member training needs and participating in and leading instruction and training sessions.
- Utilizes appropriate instructional and learning strategies while implementing the North American Building Trades Union MC3 training curriculum, Green Corps Environmental Literacy training, soft skills curriculum and other selected curricula to help meet the needs of students and employer partners.
- Provide administrative support, including:
- Coordinating and collaborating with the Director of Operations and Impact to execute the administrative requirements to maintain compliance in managing corps members’ terms of service.
- Ensuring timesheets are completed accurately and timely; monitoring benchmarks.
- Assisting in the completion and submission of Green Corps paperwork (enrollment, exit, evaluation, etc.)
- Participating in the corps member selection process.
- Identifying corps member training needs and participating in, as well as leading, instruction and training sessions.
- Attending program, staff, and community meetings and outreach events as required.
- Responding to inquiries from staff, the public, and others in a timely and courteous manner.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
Requirements
- Minimum two years’ experience in youth workforce development or vocational education
- High School diploma or GED required.
- A bachelor's degree is preferred but not required.
- Experience in energy efficiency/weatherization, horticulture, land care management, Green Stormwater Infrastructure, or clean energy fields or a related field preferred.
- Ability to motivate and guide disconnected and disengaged youn adults and diffuse conflicts.
- Knowledge of sustainability, landscaping, horticulture, and/or stormwater management principles
- Strong work ethic and ability and desire to work outdoors in challenging conditions, including but not limited to, working in extremes of heat, cold or rain, and heavy lifting, bending, and carrying up to 50 lbs.
- Experience with service-learning, AmeriCorps programming, and member management preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to adapt plans and be flexible on short notice and take initiative to problem-solve.
- First AID/CPR Certification preferred.
- Driver’s license, insurance and ability to drive a passenger van required.

Salary Range: $50,000.00 - $56,000.00 per year with a competitive benefit package, including health and dental insurance, life insurance, paid time off, parental leave, and an employer match 401k plan.
HOURS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Primarily - Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The Crew Leader is occasionally expected to work after-hours on weekends for graduation, alumni events, employer partner events, career fairs and student service projects. Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The successful candidate will be able to perform job responsibilities that require mobility and lifting of light to heavy loads as required to support the instruction of the program participants. Louisiana Green Corps will provide candidates with accommodation for job-related tasks in compliance with the American Disabilities Act and in accordance with any recommendations made by a board-certified physician for any documented disability, acute or chronic illness.
DRIVING
Must have a valid Louisiana State Driving License with a clean driving record with at least seven years of driving experience. This position will require operating a vehicle(s) transporting up to 12 participants to various locations for program purposes. Must monitor the performance condition and maintenance of cars used to transport participants. Must have reliable transportation to attend meetings and conduct business. Must accurately follow routes, maps, and directions to multiple locations promptly and exercise good judgment while driving by respectfully operating vehicle(s) according to the State of Louisiana’s traffic laws and safety standards.
BACKGROUND CHECKS
Prior to initial employment, candidates must pass a fingerprint clearance and background check, including criminal history, personal references, and employment/education verification. Louisiana Green Corps may perform additional background checks and screenings as needed to ensure the safety of program participants and community stakeholders.
