LA Green Corps provides environmental education and career building opportunities that help overcome barriers for people aspiring to change their lives.
The vision for the Louisiana Green Corps is to be a social, environmental, and economic change agent for the region. Louisiana Green Corps will provide pathways to upward mobility and civic participation through operating a conservation corps that provides training and education services, advocacy and environmentally restorative projects in the community.
Louisiana Green Corps was established in May 2008 by a Department of Labor National Emergency Grant to provide green job training to unemployed, under-employed, court involved or otherwise disadvantaged New Orleans residents. Founding organizations include Arc of Greater New Orleans, Alliance for Affordable Energy, the Old City Building Center, Mary Queen of Vietnam CDC, and the Sierra Club.
Sponsors and supporters of the Corps include Louisiana’s Region One Workforce Investment Boards and Business and Career Solutions Centers, the Louisiana Workforce Commission, Department of Labor, Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Louisiana, JOB1, the United Way, the Corporation for National and Community Service’s AmeriCorps and Volunteers In Services to America (VISTA) programs, Urban Strategies, Grainger, Jefferson Parish Workforce Investment Board, Wal-Mart Foundation, The Arc of the United States, Entergy New Orleans, the Cruise Industry Foundation of America, Massey’s Professional Outfitters, and the Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation. We are members of The Corps Network and the United States Green Building Council.
