Position Summary:


As the Airport Principal Services Agent (Senior Communications Coordinator), you will play a pivotal role in shaping the public image of Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. This professional supervisory and administrative position involves planning, coordinating, designing, and implementing a diverse array of public relations and community outreach functions and strategies. Duties and Responsibilities:


Respond to public and media inquiries, providing accurate and timely information about the airport's operations, services, and initiatives.

Design, write, and edit various printed materials, including brochures, flyers, newsletters, press releases, reports, program policies, proposals, and other marketing and promotional materials.

Prepare written correspondence for leadership staff concerning major or unusual situations, ensuring clarity and professionalism.

Develop and deliver effective oral presentations or speeches on behalf of the airport, conveying key messages and information to diverse audiences.

Proactively create and facilitate releases to the media on developing or breaking stories, investigations, and other matters of public concern.

Monitor and manage content on standard social media platforms, ensuring consistency with the airport's messaging and goals.

Monitor media coverage, assess its accuracy, and implement corrective measures as needed.

Implement public information strategies to project a positive image of the airport, fostering strong community relationships.

Develop and maintain an internal employee communications strategy to keep staff informed and engaged.

Devise, maintain, and implement effective crisis communications plans for a variety of issues, ensuring the airport is prepared to address challenges swiftly and transparently.

Perform related duties as required, contributing to the overall success and reputation of Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.

Physical Requirements:


Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

Extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking.

Manual dexterity to operate a computer and other office equipment.

Clear vision and hearing for effective communication.

Ability to work in a fast-paced and sometimes high-pressure environment.

Flexibility to respond to emergencies or urgent situations outside of regular working hours.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.

Five (5) years of progressive, highly responsible professional work in public relations, communications, journalism, or a closely related field. Professional experience must have been gained in a position that required a Bachelor's Degree upon entrance.

A valid driver's license.* Applicants must be eligible for coverage under the airport's auto liability insurance policy.

Note: Candidates must pass a personal, criminal, and employment background check required under federal regulations.

This position requires a true team-player and optimist by nature, who must possess the ability to present positively, be flexible to the dynamically changing airport environment and be a consensus-builder. The successful candidate will show a demonstrated track record of continuous good-attitude collaboration, and a solid practice of positivity in the workplace, as required.

Kind of Examination

A rating of training and experience weighted 100%. All related previous experience will be considered for qualification purposes; however, credit on the rating of training and experience will only be given for experience gained within the last ten (10) years.

This is an original entrance examination.
