The city of New Orleans dept. of Public Works is seeking a skilled Traffic Systems Electronics Technician with experience in electronics maintenance and electrical troubleshooting to join our team. In this role, you will maintain, repair, and upgrade traffic signal systems to ensure the safe and efficient flow of traffic in our community.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, inspect, and maintain traffic signal systems, including controllers, lights, and sensors.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and electronic components, including low-voltage systems
  • Program and test signal controllers to optimize traffic flow.
  • Perform preventive maintenance to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and equipment updates.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the traffic signal repair unit, including assigning tasks to team members for field and workshop activities.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate the performance of technicians and other staff to ensure quality and efficiency in work processes.
  • Inspect traffic signal equipment and infrastructure to identify necessary repairs or preventive maintenance.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues in electronic, electrical, and mechanical components of traffic control systems.
  • Ensure timely and effective repairs of malfunctioning traffic signals to minimize disruptions to traffic flow.
  • Plan and coordinate routine maintenance to extend the life of traffic control equipment.
  • Maintain an inventory of tools, parts, and equipment required for traffic signal maintenance and repair.
  • Update and maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance schedules, and equipment replacements.
  • Review and interpret technical schematics, diagrams, and blueprints related to traffic signal systems
  • Respond to emergency calls related to traffic signal outages or malfunctions, coordinating timely resolutions

Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Five (5) years of experience in electronics, electrical maintenance or traffic control systems
