Job Description

ONE CURRENT OPENING.


Under broad direction, the Civil Service Director performs professional administrative and supervisory work serving as the executive head of the City of Kenner’s Civil Service Department. Duties involve administering and mandating functions related to the civil service system for the City, ensuring they are administered in accordance with the provisions of the City Charter and the Civil Service Rules adopted by the Civil Service Board; providing direction, supervision, information, and assistance to department staff, City Administration, and City classified employees regarding all aspects of Civil Service Administration; and performing related work as directed. Per the City Charter, this is a classified position and reports to the Civil Service Board.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires an accredited Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or Public Administration, (or possibly a closely related field) with three or more years of highly responsible paid work experience in human resources or personnel administration. Must possess a valid Louisiana driver’s license.


Responsible work experience in the administration of a civil service system may substitute for the education requirement on a year for year basis.

A Juris Doctorate or Master's Degree in Business Administration, Business Administration, or Public Administration from an accredited university may substitute for two years of the required work experience.

Preference may be given to applicants who possess governmental human resources experience.

EXAMINATION:  The examination of those candidates deemed most qualified will be interviewed by the Civil Service Board tentatively scheduled for the evening of September 10, 2024.  The meeting is schedule to begin at 6:30PM. Depending on the number of minimally qualified applications received, the Civil Service Department may limit the number of interviews to best five (5) candidates. Due to the highly responsible nature of this position, promotional preference and residency points are waived.
