Job Description

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


Develop general and specific programs, policies, and procedures for identifying, controlling and reducing security threats.


  • Identify potential threats and hazards and/or other loss sources and recommend programs designed to control or reduce such losses.
  • Analyze threat and hazard information and develop viable recommendations to improve anti-terrorism security programs and countermeasures.
  • Administer a security awareness program.

Coordinate and review all security plans submitted by contract security companies to ensure compliance with MCCNO policies and procedures and compliance of all local, state and federal safety and security standards.

  • Interface with show management and exhibitors and coordinate special requests.

  • Function as the liaison between the MCCNO, city, state and federal agencies on issues relating to security.
  • Administer the development and implementation of security and life safety rules and regulations.
  • Oversee and enforce approved MCCNO rules and regulations.

Coordinate with clients and other MCCNO departments to ensure that sufficient and timely information is obtained and shared relative to security and life safety.

  • Attend all event-related meetings and establish rapport with clients, service contractors and MCCNO personnel.
  • Coordinate shuttle bus security requirements in support of conventions and special events.
  • Oversee the meeting room security lock plan requested by building staff and clients for sensitive areas.

Develop the annual budget for the Security Department and manage cost controls to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the department. 

Produce quarterly and annual recap reports of security program information to include threat assessment and intelligence sharing, DHS SAFETY Act compliance, event security planning, facility security, training & exercise and collaboration.

  • Chair a quarterly security committee meeting.
  • Maintain the Facility Security Plan.
  • Develop and maintain an auditing program accounting for security countermeasures to include programs, budgets, personnel and equipment.  

Participate in strategic planning at the department level as well as the organization- wide level to identify and communicate the effective use of department resources that may contribute to achievement of goals. This shall include review of current programs or processes as well as the design of future initiatives.

ACCOUNTABILITIES FOR SUPERVISION

  • Participate in decisions related to the selection, promotion, transfer, pay and discipline of assigned personnel.
  • Orient employees to MCCNO policies and procedures, clearly communicate job duties and responsibilities so individuals may proceed with certainty in the performance of their positions.
  • Personally conduct or oversee training for new employees to ensure established procedures are clearly understood and followed.
  • Monitor the work performance of assigned personnel on a continual basis, conduct effective performance appraisals, and take corrective action whenever necessary.
  • Create a working climate in which assigned personnel are motivated to develop their skills and abilities and demonstrate by personal example the desired standards of conduct and work performance.
  • Administer MCCNO policies in a fair and equitable manner with regard to discipline, tardiness, absenteeism or insubordination and fully document all incidents and actions taken.

Qualifications/Experience

Required

Minimum of five years’ experience in a management or supervisory position required.

Preferred


Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; and six to ten years related experience and/or training in a convention, hotel and/or large multi-purpose facility preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
