Job Description
Role Overview
The Director of Finance and Operations is responsible for building and maintaining strong systems for ALAS’ operational and financial functions. These systems serve as a foundation for providing a functional and well-oiled work environment that allows teammates to focus on achieving their goals of providing high-quality, impactful programming to our youth and educators.
The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, a drive to succeed, and strong leadership and management skills. They should be an organizational powerhouse with stellar time-management skills, able to advance numerous competing priorities and solve problems independently. They are humble and willing to both design and execute systems. No job or detail is beneath them.
All ALAS staff love working directly with our youth and growing alongside them.
The Director of Finance and Operations will focus primarily on the following major priorities:
- Financial management and sustainability
- Systems that support day-to-day operations
- Developing and scaling data systems that drive performance
Compensation
The salary for this full-time position is $70,000, non-negotiable. This is a 90-day contract-to-hire role. This full-time role is based in New Orleans, requiring in-person work only, with a commitment of 35 hours in the office per week plus additional evening and weekend hours for activities (40 hours), experiential learning (40 hours) , and trips (50 hours).
6 weeks paid time off. Of those 17 days are designated, 2 of those weeks fall around the New Year (dates vary per year based on school partners), and 13 days are chosen by each teammate

- Seamless Operations - Through personalized & efficient systems our internal strategy, systems, and processes are optimized and constantly improving. The impact of our work changes external systems and creates lifelong changemakers. There are no dropped commitments, missed opportunities, or late replies.
- Accessibility - All teammates, educators, board members, and partners report ease as opposed to confusion in finding updated data and documents.
- Sustainability - Ensure organizational financial sustainability and compliance with financial reporting & auditing standards. Collaborate with ED to make strategic decisions to keep us financially solvent.
- Credibility - Design and own a sophisticated and accurate data tracking system that provides timely analysis for reporting and decision-making.
Who We’re Seeking

Work Requirements
- Willingness to learn Spanish
- Must be available to work 100% in person in New Orleans, and remotely during evacuation or quarantine
- Excitement to travel for multiple night team trips or conferences 4-12 times per year
- Eagerness to attend community events and meetings that will occur some nights and weekends
- Must have a strong work ethic and flexibility in response to our school and community partners
- Must be fully vaccinated because we work in and with schools
- Tech requirements: Phone, computer, internet, Zoom and WhatsApp
- 3-5 years experience managing systems, analyzing data, and in organizational leadership
- Experience working in an organization with a values-driven culture that prioritizes directly affected people, racial equity, diversity, and inclusion
- Experience with the following preferred: Google suite and sheets, Salesforce, Quickbooks, Gusto, Mileo, Divvy, Canva, and web-based project management software
