Job Description

Job Description:

The Communications Intern supports the Client Services team in the day-to-day needs of client accounts, while gaining knowledge of the public relations field. Interns work directly with assigned strategists executing tactical assignments but are also given individual projects from which they can learn and develop their skill set. This hands-on approach allows interns to build their resumes and portfolios.

As the activities of a public relations practitioner vary daily, hourly and even by the minute, Intern activities can include administrative support, research, account assistance, design work, social media engagement, special event support and media relations.  Regardless, the internship will definitely include bedrock public relations skills of research, writing and editing.

Gambel Communications' Internship Program is a three-month hands-on experience aimed at developing core public relations concepts and strategies desired in most entry-level public relations positions. Gambel Communications prides itself on offering a competitive opportunity with real client experience that will set aspiring professionals apart from their peers entering the public relations field.

This is a paid internship. Intern schedules can be flexible but must be able to work 20 hours per week Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and/or Friday.

Responsibilities can include:

  • Assist communications strategists with account services
  • Manage select community projects and pro-bono accounts
  • Assist with new business presentations through research, team briefings and preparation of proposal packets
  • Contribute to Gambel Communications’ website
  • Design creative materials using Canva, as necessary
  • Provide internal administrative support including internal communications, office errands and vendor management
  • Prepare for meetings including scheduling, printing materials, setting up board room, etc.
  • Maintain proprietary databases including community relations, networking, contact and media lists
  • Oversee office projects and events including staff activities, client stewardship, retreat, etc.
  • Draft and submit award nominations
  • Attend networking events
  • Attend weekly staff meetings

Individuals who will be the most successful at this role will have experience with media writing, social media content curation and graphic design using either InDesign or Canva.

Expectations:

  • Good writing skills
  • Manage time efficiently
  • Maintain the highest professional standards
  • Honor the confidentiality of our clients  and our agency
  • Report regularly on time spent, activity and results to ensure proper client billing
  • Consume news daily to understand the media landscape

Interested candidates should send a resume, cover letter and one work sample (press release, social media content, etc.) to april@gambelpr.com. The applications will be open until filled or until April 14, 2023.
