Want to be in the midst of the New Orleans and Louisiana music scene? Want to contribute to a high-profile online publication that supports local musicians and the entire music “ecosystem”? 

We are seeking a dedicated person to help OffBeat create and maintain the ultimate music and events listings service for our readers online and in print.

Job duties include contacting (via telephone, email, website and social media) Louisiana clubs, musicians, promoters, venues and others to acquire accurate, timely information on live music performances, festivals, concerts and other special events. Knowledge of the internet, research on the ‘net and proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications and Google docs is essential. You also will need to be familiar with WordPress back-end for data entry, as well as image upload to our listings system.

The listings manager will obtain and gather information, follow up to be sure it's been received prior to deadlines, is accurate, checked for accuracy, input it into our databases, edit it for publication and also be responsible for uploading it onto our website and mobile products. You must be very organized, able to type accurately and quickly, and be able to manage databases with thousands of entries without a problem. Knowledge of Wordpress is helpful, but not essential. You should also know how to use social media, specifically Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and more.

The successful candidate must be very detail-oriented (to the point of being anal, as accuracy is crucial); must be computer-literate, particularly in the use of databases and the internet; be diligent and persistent in obtaining information; must be personable on the telephone and via email; be a competent writer; and be knowledgeable of the music scene, bands and clubs in New Orleans and throughout Louisiana.

There is a large amount of outside contact and data entry involved.

Qualified applicants will also be responsible for updating and maintaining OffBeat’s music databases and disseminating information to the OffBeat staff, as well as communicating regularly with advertisers and distribution points. The job requires accuracy in entering information into our databases and maintaining them impeccably.

Applicant must be able to work productively in a deadline-oriented environment. This is a permanent part-time position, requiring approximately 15 to 20 hours per week. You can work from our office in the New Orleans Jazz Museum, but this is a job that’s easily done from home.
