Organization: The Water Collaborative of Greater New Orleans
The Water Collaborative (TWC) stands as a regional authority in urban water management and climate adaptation, innovating solutions for pressing water-related challenges through interdisciplinary collaboration and multi-objective problem-solving. Our mission is to foster a diverse network focused on equitable practices to manage flood risks and enhance sustainable living with water.
About the Green Tours: New Orleans, a vibrant cultural hub, launched its unique Green Tours to explore the city's historical and evolving relationship with water and climate. Despite common misconceptions limited to Hurricane Katrina's impact, our narrative delves deeper into the sophisticated water management systems that have been part of the city since the early 20th century. These tours aim to rectify misunderstandings and highlight New Orleans as a leader in climate action.
Tour Types:
- Mississippi River Walking Tour: A journey from the Algiers Ferry Landing to Crescent Park Garden, exploring water's influence on the city's culture and future.
- Songs in the Key of Water Biking Tour: A musical biking tour that illustrates the city’s post-Katrina water infrastructure through local artists' stories.
- Custom Group Tours: Tailored experiences that can include boat tours, infrastructure visits, and volunteer opportunities.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Conduct informative and engaging tours in New Orleans' French Quarters and other key sites.
- Ensure participant safety and respond knowledgeably to inquiries.
- Maintain professionalism and adapt tours to meet group needs.
Requirements:
- Experience in tourism, customer service, or public speaking preferred.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with diverse audiences.
- In-depth knowledge of local history, culture, and points of interest.
- Availability for flexible scheduling, including weekends and holidays.
- Multilingual abilities are a plus.
Benefits:
- Competitive compensation and opportunities for professional growth.
- Flexible scheduling and a dynamic work environment.

About The Water Collaborative of Greater New Orleans
The Water Collaborative is a grassroots movement created by leaders in the water management sector. From the beginning, our origins were rooted in collaborative design, transparency and trust building, and diversity and equity. Leadership in the sector have always viewed water management as the best vehicle to address climate change, urban and economic development, and environmental justice simultaneously.
Origins of The Water Collaborative
Awareness of the issues and opportunities relating to water management in the Greater New Orleans area began to build in the early 2010s. Sample activities and initiatives from this time include:
- Regular meetings of the Horizon Initiative’s Water Committee, convened by Grasshopper Mendoza and Steve Picou;
- A series of reports on water management commissioned by the Citizen’s Task Force and completed by Jeff Thomas of Thomas Strategies;
- A group of organizations and activists convened by Bayou Rebirth to strategize responding to the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board’s request-for-proposals for green infrastructure projects;
- Meetings of the key water management specialists and activists convened by the Greater New Orleans Foundation;
- The Louisiana Urban Stormwater Coalition convened by landscape architect Dana Brown of Dana Brown & Associates.
