Cultural Coordinator
Job Description 2022-23
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Culture Coordinator works to create and enhance a culture of achievement and respect where high expectations and results are the norm. The Culture Coordinator is responsible for demonstrating significant and measurable gains, each year, with all students. The School Culture Coordinator will work in close collaboration with key school and community stakeholders to integrate new culture programs, trainings and resources that focus on staff development, and enhanced discipline and behavior framework, student socio-emotional support, conflict resolution, and attendance improvement. The actions of our Culture Coordinator must always be aligned with our mission, vision, core values and education program. The essential functions for our Culture Coordinator are as follows:
I. CULTURE OF ACHIEVEMENT AND RESPECT
• Collaborate with school leadership team to create and manage a safe and welcoming learning environment
• Collaborate with school leadership team to write and monitor the school-wide Culture of Achievement Plan
• Coordinate School-wide Town Hall Meetings.
• Coordinate positive programs for students during and after-school (example: student council, peer mediators)
• Research and implement new school culture initiatives to further develop the school culture.
• Build a culture of achievement and respect with families, students and school/ network staff
• Collaborate with Family Coordinator on family events
• Build relationships with community organizations to form partnerships
• Consult with other professional staff, outside agencies and other organizations in order to improve school culture and climate
• Assist leadership team with staff and student recruitment, as well as staff hiring
• Model professionalism and the Sci High Pillars at all times
II. Behavior And Discipline
● Develop and manage a clear and consistent PBIS initiative aligned with behavior and discipline framework, establish a clearly defined role for every adult in the school, and ensure faithful compliance and enforcement among all staff
● Drive conversations with staff and administration aimed at achieving grassroots support and individual ownership
● Generate consensus about core culture values, expectations and consequences and publicize them throughout the school (Non-Negotiables)
● Establish and lead a culture committee comprised of teachers, administrators, and students with the goal of promoting Culture of Calm at the grassroots level
● Ensure every student feels a strong sense of connectedness to and advocacy from adults in the school building
● Establish school-wide ownership of each student having a "go to" adult in the building
● Align behavior and discipline programs with the school’s culture values and ensure they have a restorative approach. Elements to address include, but will not be limited to: 1) Incident referral process; 2) Passing period, lunch and dismissal monitoring; 3) In-school suspension curriculum; 4) Student re-entry into school; 5) Suspension alternatives; 6) CPI training
III. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
• Collaborate with Administration to coordinate and lead professional development on classroom and school culture
• Build a collaborative culture and individual relationships with teachers, school staff, and school leadership
• Collaborate with colleagues (leadership and school-wide meetings, professional development days) to continuously improve personal practice and promote student achievement, as well as the overall goals and mission of the school.
• Reflect critically to identify areas for further professional development as part of a professional development plan that is linked to school goals, access meaningful learning experiences, and listen thoughtfully to other viewpoints and respond constructively to suggestions and criticisms.
• Fulfill all outlined and related functions professionally, timely and thoroughly.
Skills/Requirements
I. EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree
II. EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
• 2 - 4 years youth development experience with proven track record of developing a culture of achievement in a school environment.
• 2 - 4 years in a leadership role improving conditions in low-income schools, neighborhoods or communities, and experience with youth development in behavioral and educational settings, particularly with teens
• Experience managing complex, large-scale projects from start to finish as project lead
• Excellent communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with diverse constituencies
• Team player. Must be able to work collaboratively
• Experience providing professional development to teachers
• Proven success in turning best practices into outstanding academic results

• Willingness to work nights and select weekends as required
