Job Summary:
The Manager of System Services will provision and provide support for company servers and specialized appliances. They will also be the supervisor for all other System Administrator positions.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Must be able to manage System Administrators, ensuring projects are done in the established timeframe
- Create effective and efficient procedures consistent with established IT policy guidelines
- Provide constructive feedback to System Administrators to maintain consistent excellence in the execution of their job duties
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Work with the customer (end users) to understand their computing needs
- Deploy servers both physical and virtual that meet the needs of the user
- Provision storage from enterprise storage systems
- Install and upgrade software on servers including operating system patches
- Maintain records on the company's IT assets
- Monitor systems for appropriate use in accordance with established IT policies
- Create and maintain user accounts for the various managed systems
- Manage user permissions on company file shares
- Backup and restore data with the company backup system
- Troubleshoot hardware and software problems on end-user systems and servers
- Provide input on the adoption and deployment of new applications and systems that the IT department will manage for the rest of the company
- Work with vendors to purchase hardware and software on behalf of the company
- Provide excellent customer service when users are having difficulty with their systems
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong logical skills and computer architectures and user interface concepts
- Experience with Microsoft Windows and/or Linux operating systems
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Outlook
- Experience with Active Directory and Linux permissions
- Experience with virtualization technologies (VMWare, VDI, Oracle VM)
- Experience with Office 365 email services
- Experience with Microsoft SharePoint
- Advanced capabilities with relevant scripting languages (PowerShell, bash, python, Perl, etc.)
- Highly skilled in troubleshooting techniques
- Must have excellent communication skills with a strong focus on customer service
- Must exhibit great attention to detail including consistency in documenting system changes
- Must have the ability to create realistic timelines for project completion and allocate personnel resources to complete the task on time
- Enthusiasm for new technologies and a willingness to learn them to keep current
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in this field
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Ability to work after regular business hours to work on systems during maintenance windows
- Ability to lift 30 lbs. for short periods while racking equipment.
