Overview

Greater New Orleans, Inc. is the nonprofit regional economic development organization serving the 10-parishes of Greater New Orleans.  Our mission is to create a region with a thriving economy and an excellent quality of life, for everyone.  The ultimate indication of our success will be the presence of a robust, accessible, and growing middle class in Southeast Louisiana where our children and grandchildren can live and prosper.

GNO, Inc. is seeking a dynamic leader to oversee and execute its workforce and talent initiatives. This work can be broadly categorized into three areas: 

  • Regional Ecosystem Leadership – Provide thought leadership as well as tools and resources to support regional workforce solutions 
  • Strengthening Partnerships & Building Capacity – Facilitate employer/training provider relationships through GNO, Inc.’s signature workforce development program “GNOu”
  • Program Management – Lead workforce program execution wherein GNO, Inc. plays a direct, “intermediary” role with partners

In summary, GNO, Inc.’s workforce and talent initiatives endeavor to catalyze the work of partners – employers, higher education institutions, nonprofit service providers, and local/state workforce entities – to provide market-relevant training opportunities for companies to grow in Greater New Orleans and for residents to secure high-wage, high-demand jobs.

In addition to the specific duties detailed below, GNO, Inc. operates with a cross-functional mentality.  It is a job with both significant responsibility and reward and is an opportunity to play an important role in the economic future of the Greater New Orleans region.  This is a Senior Staff position reporting to the Chief Operating Officer.

Job Responsibilities

Regional Ecosystem Leadership

  • Conduct regional workforce ecosystem analysis and establish metrics for benchmarking talent and workforce pipelines, work with GNO, Inc. colleagues and stakeholders to create roadmap and ecosystem-wide goals
  • In partnership with GNO, Inc. Research Associate, gather labor market information and conduct analysis to support partners in program planning, including the annual Greater New Orleans Jobs Report
  • In collaboration with GNO, Inc. colleagues in Marketing & Communications, oversee GNO, Inc.’s online job and talent resources, including StudyNOLA.com, WorkNOLA.com, and  GNOCareerGuide.org, working to promote across the ecosystem and increase usage/engagement by individuals
  • Supported by GNO, Inc. colleagues, direct the annual GNOu Summit Workforce & Training Pipeline Conference held annually in the Fall

Strengthening Partnerships & Building Capacity

  • Promote and advance GNOu workforce development programs, in which GNO, Inc. serves as an intermediary to align regional employer demand with curricula and program offerings at higher education institutions
  • Serve as GNO, Inc. lead for the Greater New Orleans Higher Education Consortium, comprised of the presidents and chancellors of the region’s 13 higher education institutions; coordinate consortium projects with higher education partners
  • In collaboration with regional partners, work to develop programs and curricula that meet regional talent needs by facilitating employer engagement, providing data and insights, and supporting funding pursuits

Program Management

  • Lead execution of GNO, Inc. workforce programs, specifically the GNO Infrastructure Partnership and the GNO Regional Aerospace & Advanced Manufacturing Partnership
  • Partner with GNO, Inc. colleagues in implementation of additional workforce initiatives, including Future Energy/H2theFuture
  • Support GNO, Inc. colleagues leading Economic Mobility programs that are aligned with workforce goals, including re-entry talent initiatives and STEM internship programs
  • When opportunities and unmet workforce needs arise, collaborate with partners to develop new GNO, Inc.-led workforce programs, working with GNO, Inc. colleagues in Business Development (employer engagement), Research (labor analysis), and Advancement (funding)

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree required

Experience: 10+ years of full-time work experience in workforce development or related field

Skills, Background, and Capabilities:

The ideal candidate will possess many of these professional and personal abilities and attributes:

  • Demonstrated performance in an externally facing role; comfort with public speaking
  • Proven track record of relationship and network building
  • Strong, demonstrable track record of program delivery
  • Grant writing and management experience
  • Intermediate to advanced-level knowledge of Salesforce and MS Office products
  • Self-starter, ability to work independently and make intelligent decisions
  • Produces accurate work while meeting deadlines, with attention to detail
  • Works in a team-oriented, goals-driven organization that emphasizes a friendly culture and takes ownership of work responsibilities
  • Ability to travel to the 10 Greater New Orleans parishes as well as to statewide and national conferences/meetings occasionally
  • Love of Greater New Orleans!

Allowable Substitutions: A combination of education, experience, and/or training that provides the required knowledge and skills for the position may be considered in lieu of education and/or experience at GNO, Inc.’s discretion.

Compensation commensurate with experience; generous benefits package available.
