Job Description

YMCA of Greater New Orleans is currently hiring a part-time instructor/tutor for its adult education program in Avondale.


The Adult Education Instructor/Tutor will provide individualized support for a small group of students preparing for high school equivalency exams. This involves monitoring student progress on online lessons and providing targeted support in the classroom. The curriculum with supplemental practice is built into each student's learning plan.


This part-time position is 8 hours/week, including 4 hours of in-person instruction on Mondays and Wednesdays 10am-12pm at the J.C. Simmons Community Center in Avondale.

Pay rate is $25/hour.

The instructional session will run through the end of June 2026, with the possibility of renewal.


Essential responsibilities: 

  • Monitor online learning to plan classroom support
  • Provide individual student tutoring
  • Provide small group instruction
  • Communicate with the Director to track student progress and retention, target instruction, and facilitate testing as required
  • Complete trainings and attend any virtual meetings required for staff of the YMCA or its adult education program. 


Qualifications & Skills: 


  • Bachelor's degree 
  • +3 years of experience serving adults with diverse learning needs and backgrounds, especially low literacy populations
  • Experience with learning plans aligned to educational standards
  • Competence working with (and learning new) online learning software 
  • Mission-driven work ethic, adaptability, and strong communication skills in a remote team environment
