Job Description

Contemporary art triennial seeks qualified Gallery Attendants to engage and greet Prospect 6 exhibition visitors while safeguarding installation spaces and artworks. Candidates for this role must be highly motivated, detail oriented, and feel comfortable engaging with diverse groups of people. This is an hourly position, 5 days a week (Wednesday - Sunday,) $20 per hour. Tentative employment term October 30, 2024 - February 2, 2025.



Qualifications 

  • Experience with customer service
  • Interest in the visual arts 
  • Familiar with museum standards and best practices
  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interact with people of all ages, abilities, economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to represent the organization with a high level of integrity, ethics, and professionalism
  • Capability to work independently as well as an integral part of a team
  • Ability to follow complex instructions with an attention to detail, safety, and organization
  • Ability to work with and process information from a variety of individuals and media (e.g. computers, projected images, printed materials)
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for up to 6 hours per day including walking, stooping, occasionally climbing stairs or using an elevator, reaching chest high and overhead for materials, and the ability to feel objects, tools, or controls
  • Must be comfortable with working in climate and non-climate controlled conditions
  • Must have a smartphone in order to check-in guests
  • Must have a valid US driver's license and personal vehicle
  • Must be punctual and available for the duration of the exhibition

Responsibilities

  • Warmly welcome and check in visitors (via RSVP) 
  • Provide visitors with information on Prospect, P.6 installations, as well as ongoing Programs, and local suggestions for the area
  • Diplomatically handle visitor social interactions and enact emergency protocols, if necessary
  • Prep designated venue and artworks for opening and closing of each day 
    • This may include cleaning and turning on/off any AV/Tech necessary  
  • Effectively communicate with the Exhibitions team to address any issues relating to incidents at Prospect.6 venues or changes in conditions of artworks or environments
  • Regularly communicate via email and text throughout the day
  • This position reports directly to the Operations and Visitor Services Manager


Prospect will provide:

  • Extensive training and education on P.6 Exhibition
  • Printed Venue Instructional Packet and Checklist 
  • Staff Exhibition Lanyard
  • Chair and Table as needed per venue
  • Accessible Restrooms for Staff at non-conventional venues 
  • First Aid Kits, Masks, and Hand Sanitizer 
  • Daily and weekly schedules per venue and attendant  (emailed)

The Prospect exhibition is a citywide contemporary art triennial, formalized in 2008 and now at work on its sixth iteration, curated by Miranda Lash & Ebony G. Patterson and running November 2, 2024 – February 2, 2025.
