Job Description
Job Description
Community Works is seeking a professional African Drumming musician and teaching artist to work as an instructor in one of our afterschool programs. All applicants must have awareness of New Orleans music traditions and culture, professional experience, and experience working with children. Additionally, applicants should be prepared to work with students recovering from trauma, who struggle to thrive in a typical school day program. The semester will end with a culminating event where the class can showcase what they’ve learned over course.
CW Background/Mission
Community Works (CW) builds a creative and healthy Greater New Orleans by increasing equitable access to innovative programs that engage young people.
CW offers schools and organizations comprehensive extended day program management. All CW after school, summer and in-school residencies align academically with the school day and year.
Job Requirements
CW Enrichment Instructors are professionals in the community selected not only for their talent in their field but their ability to engage students and exhibit classroom management skills. Everything CW does is rooted in the belief that extended learning opportunities are most impactful when they look and feel different than the regular school day. Upon being hired, instructors will create curriculums in line with Louisiana Student Standards to integrate numeracy and literacy into daily activities, communicate well with students as well as other staff members, and reinforce what students have learned during the school day. Ideal candidates should have the following qualifications:
- Experience working with students ranging from PK-8th graders
- Ability to demonstrate deep knowledge, understanding, and technical mastery of their discipline.
- Possessing a genuine determination and eagerness to share their passions and experiences with young people.
- Understanding of the complexities and challenges of school environments and be able to provide a flexible approach to teaching.
- Have a reliable form of transportation and be willing to drive up to 20 minutes to any of our sites.
- A current Background Check.
