Job Description
Reporting to the Director of Security, the Gallery Attendant is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all visitors, staff, volunteers, works of art and Museum properties.
This is a part-time (29 hours per week), on-site position.
Essential Job Functions:
Ensure the Safety of People, Artwork and the Museum Environment
• Maintain a safe and secure environment by patrolling and monitoring the premises and the permanent collection and special exhibition galleries
• Ensure the following of museum rules with both public and staff
• Monitor, control and record all traffic of visitors and staff entering and leaving the building
• Monitor, control and record all traffic of art entering and leaving the building
• Be prepared to provide emergency assistance in the event of a medical, fire, or other emergency situation.
• Report to Security Management any damage to exhibits, unsafe conditions, unusual occurrences such as minor accidents, perceived suspicious activity or situation/ and other cases requiring additional help or authority
• Prepare incident reports when necessary
Provide Professional Customer Service to Visitors
• Act as a professional representative of the Museum to the public
• Communicate professionally with Museum visitors to provide directions, information, and general assistance
• Be knowledgeable about exhibitions on view and Museum programming
Be an Engaged Employee of Ogden Museum of Southern Art
• Work professionally with other security and facility personnel during shifts
• Work museum events as needed outside of regular museum operating hours
• Become familiar with and follow the protocols and policies outlined in Ogden Museum's Employee Handbook
• Attend all exhibition training sessions
• Attend meetings to review scope of duties or work as needed
• Attend quarterly Security Department meetings
• Perform other security duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays
• Ability to communicate effectively with the general public and use communications equipment.
• Attendance/Punctuality - Is consistently at work and on time; ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent; arrives at meetings and appointments on time
• High School diploma or other commensurate experience
Physical/Other Requirements
• Must be able to lift 30 pounds and spend time on feet
• Must successfully complete and pass a security background check.
According to Museum Policy, all staff are evaluated on a 30, 60, 90-day period
