Job Description

Jefferson Parish is looking TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF ECOSYSTEMS & COASTAL MANAGEMENT.

Kind of Work

The Jefferson Parish Department of Ecosystem and Coastal Management is seeking a student worker to assist with public outreach and educational programs by performing in a costume as the Parish’s resilience mascot, Miss Marsha the Brown Pelican. The purpose of Miss Marsha is to educate citizens about the natural hazards in Jefferson Parish and ways to be prepared for them. This position will participate in community outreach events dressed in the Miss Marsha pelican costume.  Care for costume by cleaning head, separating pieces, brushing fur, etc. Distribute flyers and informational brochures at community events.  Pose for pictures as mascot with citizens at community events. 

Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination

Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age and currently enrolled as a student in college or high school; plus, must be willing to interact with people of all ages in the public as a costumed mascot.

*NOTE: Applicants under the age of eighteen (18) must obtain an employment certificate (aka a work permit) prior to the start of work, once an offer of hire is extended.

NON-COMPETIVITE: All persons meeting the stated requirements on this announcement will be issued an Employment Eligibility letter for Student Worker (Costumed Mascot - Ecosystems & Coastal Management) and have their name forwarded to the appointing authority when vacancies arise.
