200 Derbigny Street, Suite 3100, Gretna, LA 70053
Job Description
Kind of Work
The purpose of this position is to operate large tandem dump trucks (8 yards and over), maintenance trucks, trash trucks, trucks equipped with tandem axles, and/or any truck that requires a Louisiana Class "B" CDL to operate. Employee is responsible for minor maintenance and servicing of assigned truck. This position is also an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish.
NOTE: Some positions may be required to operate a truck while towing a trailer; in which case selective certification of eligibles with a Louisiana Class "A" CDL would be used in filling those vacancies.
Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination
Possession of a current Louisiana Class B (or higher) Commercial Driver's License (CDL)* and an acceptable driving record.
*NOTE: A valid Class B (or higher) Commercial Driver's License (CDL) from a state other than Louisiana is acceptable for application; however, once an employment offer is extended, an applicant has ten (10) days to obtain the required Louisiana CDL. Failure to obtain a Louisiana CDL will disqualify an applicant for permanent employment in this position.
About Jefferson Parish Government
Jefferson, Louisiana is a diverse community sprawling the southern shore of Lake Pontchartrain and ending sixty miles later on the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. Nestled next to our famous neighbor, New Orleans. Our communities are comprised of modern high rises, historic homes, fishing piers, Mississippi River views, marsh land, contemporary and old world restaurants, flourishing industrial parks, and family-friendly green spaces. An area of rapid growth and business development over the past several decades, Jefferson has the ability to offer venues and accommodations to a broad spectrum. With two major convention centers and numerous recreational facilities Jefferson hosts conferences, meetings, exhibits, theatrical performances, and sports tournaments.
The Jefferson Parish Personnel Department strives to serve the public by providing the means by which the general public and current employees can learn of, apply for, and fairly compete for Parish employment opportunities. The Personnel Department further seeks to enable the Departments of Jefferson Parish to make informed decisions regarding civil service employment and assist in the appointment of qualified candidates for those Department's positions.
