$16 per hour
TIME FRAME: SHORT TERM, SEASONAL POSITION
ALL EIGHT JAZZ FESTIVAL EVENT DAYS: April 24-27 & May 1- May 4, 2025
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the guidance of the Access Program Coordinator and with support from staff and volunteers, the Access Center Event Assistant facilitates the daily operations of the Festival’s Access Center in compliance with Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The Access Center serves as the hub for accessibility services and accommodations provided to patrons with disabilities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Providing ADA Accommodations:
- Understand and implement complex disability access concepts.
- Respond to patron accommodation requests in accordance with the ADA.
- Engage with patrons to assess their needs and provide appropriate accommodations.
Administration:
- Organize, prioritize, and execute tasks with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Maintain professionalism under pressure, handling multiple demands and frequent interruptions.
- Interpret and apply various instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats.
- Ensure the Access Center is properly set up, organized, and maintained daily (e.g., setting up tables and chairs, organizing forms, and managing assistive technology resources).
- Disseminate Access Program information to staff, vendors, volunteers, and the public.
- Maintain and update the procedure/operations manual by logging patron and staff/volunteer feedback.
- Monitor telephone calls, retrieve voicemail messages, and maintain patron confidentiality.
- Complete all required feedback forms and final reports.
- Perform additional work-related duties as assigned.
Customer Service:
- Provide welcoming and professional customer service.
- Respond to patron inquiries regarding the Festival and Access Program services.
- Address patron concerns with critical thinking and practical solutions.
Volunteer Management:
- Sign volunteers in and out, assign them to shifts, and provide necessary supplies.
- Maintain organized volunteer shift records and report any issues to the Access Coordinator.
- Train volunteers to inform the public about Access Program services.
- Provide clear direction and role-specific training to volunteers.
Physical Requirements:
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat and rain.
- Move between Festival entry points and the Access Center as needed.
- Remain primarily stationed at the Access Center without extensive mobility around the Festival site.
Availability Requirements:
- Work all Festival days: April 24–April 27 and May 1–May 5, 2025.
- Shifts: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM.
- Attend four hours of pre-festival training.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Enjoys problem solving and is able to “make it work” in an exciting and fast paced environment.
- Finds satisfaction and joy in providing an accessible Jazz Fest experience to people with disabilities.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Using the Absentee Request Form, it is the responsibility of each employee and their supervisor to accurately report their absenteeism to the HR Office.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive issues.
- Must attend and complete any required training.
- Any document, computer program, design or other intellectual property created for the Jazz Festival belongs to the Jazz Festival and must be given to the Festival through your supervisor or department head at the end of each production year, or upon request.
- Must complete all required Feedback Forms and Final reports.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with ADA Title III implementation or similar programs is preferred but not required.
- Customer service experience in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience providing training, direction, and instruction to others.
- Familiarity with the Jazz Festival site, offerings, and environment.
- A bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required.
