$18.00 per hour

TIME FRAME: THIS IS A SHORT TERM, SEASONAL POSITION
APRIL 23-26 AND APRIL 30-MAY 03 plus planning meetings

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Fair Operations Director (or designee), the Gate Security Captain is responsible for implementing Festival gate security procedures to ensure a safe and secure environment for patrons, staff, and vendors. This role oversees contract security operations at assigned gates and serves as the primary point of contact for gate-related security matters.


Essential Functions

  • Supervise and manage contract security personnel at public, personnel, and other designated entry points
  • Oversee bag checks, walk-through magnetometer (MAG) operations, and secondary screening procedures
  • Evaluate gate security operations daily and make recommendations for adjustments as needed
  • Review and assess training procedures for contract security staff; conduct daily briefings for bag checkers and MAG operators
  • Serve as point of contact at assigned gates to troubleshoot technical issues and resolve patron concerns
  • Monitor contract security staffing levels and recommend redeployments or break rotations as needed
  • Assist with daily briefings and ensure consistent enforcement of entrance policies
  • Act as liaison between contract security, Festival staff, and law enforcement during emergencies, severe weather, evacuations, early closures, or other critical incidents
  • Support crowd management for ingress and egress, including modifying gate setups and staffing plans when necessary
  • Accurately report absenteeism to the Festival Finance Office using the Absentee Request Form
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information
  • Attend and complete all required trainings
  • Complete all required Feedback Forms and Final Reports
  • Submit a written After Action Report within 30 days following the event, including an overview of activities and recommendations for improvements
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned

Education, Experience & Skills Required

  • Experience managing security operations, including bag checks, walk-through magnetometer operations, and emergency response procedures
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and direct large, diverse teams
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in high-pressure or emergency situations
  • Proactive, solution-oriented, and able to troubleshoot issues quickly and effectively
  • Ability to remain calm and decisive in fast-paced, high-volume environments
