Job Description

$16.00 per hour

TIME FRAME: This is a short term, seasonal position.

Dates: April 20 to May 04, 2026

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide assistance to Congo Square Coordinator with load-in and set-up of artists / vendors.  Assist in monitoring vendor activity and overall infield traffic in Congo Square.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Pre-fest:

  • Compare vendor list with existing signs, note booth number changes, drill holes in new signs, hang with 4-5 zip ties each (full day task)
  • Guide vendors to locations, bring in fruit order from Horsemen's (refrigerate grapes/berries), receive Sam's Club order
  • Prewash all dishes and coffee supplies at Horsemen's Cafeteria sinks (use vinegar, baking soda, dish soap - treat staff with courtesy)

Festival Days

  • Prepare coffee/tea, cut and arrange fruit trays, and set up breakfast items at the info booth before gates open.
  • Walk the marketplace to ensure vendors are set up and aware of opening times.
  • Sign volunteers in/out, track attendance, and coordinate shift changes throughout the day.
  • Answer festival-goer questions and provide general assistance.
  • Check on vendors throughout the day, assist with quick needs (food runs, bathroom breaks, etc.).
  • Oversee designated vendor port-a-potties and ensure proper access.
  • Maintain water/sports drinks at the info booth for artists, vendors, and volunteers.
  • Monitor radio, report issues to supervisors, and keep an eye on vendor compliance with festival standards.
  • Ensure volunteers are signed out, monitor vendor restroom access, and secure equipment as needed.
  • Assist with vendor checkout process, including sales reports, booth inspections, and vehicle access once the grounds clear.

Post-Fest

  • Cut down and stack signs for storage, discard zip ties
  • Clear remaining rubbish from booths, help pack trailer
  • Ensure all dishes are towel/air dried for 24 hours before storage
  • Submit brief report to Janelle (Volunteer Coordinator) noting excellent/poor volunteers and no-shows


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

High School Graduate, some college education preferred.  Proficient computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and some Publisher).  Ability to deal with the public in a professional manner. Ability to complete assignments in a timely and organized manner.   Excellent writing and organizational skills.  Special event experience and knowledge of African Diaspora art and crafts.  Ability to lift forty pounds and stand for extended periods of time.  Endurance for long hours in an active, stressful production setting with the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
