Your Role: Senior Substation Physical Engineer

The Senior Substation Physical Engineer is an expert-level technical contributor responsible for delivering high complexity and nonstandard substation physical designs with full independence. This role frequently serves as discipline lead, project lead, or proposal lead, and may serve as Engineer of Record where required. The Senior Engineer applies advanced technical judgment, ensures compliance with all applicable codes and client standards, and provides high level technical direction to ensure safe, reliable, and constructible project outcomes.

What You’ll Do
  • Independently deliver high‑complexity substation physical designs including general arrangements, equipment/bus layouts, clearances, grounding/lightning coordination, raceway routing, and bills of material
  • Serve as Discipline Lead for physical design on complex projects, ensuring technical compatibility across all substation engineering disciplines
  • Serve as Project Lead for technical execution, driving discipline deliverables, scope alignment, design direction, risk evaluation, and constructability solutions
  • Act as Engineer of Record (EOR) per licensure and company policy
  • Perform advanced QC reviews with very minimal non‑technical markups expected during formal quality control
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance substation physical design standards, specifications, typical drawings, and material requirements
  • Provide advanced construction support, including complex RFI resolution, technical clarifications, field reviews, and design adjustments with no oversight
  • Lead the development of proposals, including discipline cost estimates, execution strategies, and technical approaches
  • Resolve complex engineering challenges, non‑standard conditions, and unique site‑specific issues with full independence
  • Coordinate technical requirements with Civil, Structural, P&C, and System Studies engineering to ensure integrated project delivery
  • Communicate directly with clients, vendors, and external stakeholders to present technical solutions and respond to design issues
  • Provide high‑level technical presentations on advanced substation physical design topics
What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • 7+ years of experience engineering/designing electrical systems within the Utilities or Energy industry; additional 2 years in lieu of FE Certification
  • Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Bentley Substation, P4P, and related engineering tools
  • Expert‑level knowledge of NESC, IEEE 80, IEEE 998, NEC, and applicable substation physical design standards
  • Proven ability to execute highly complex engineering work independently and meet schedule/budget commitments
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to represent the discipline to clients and stakeholders
  • FE preferred, EIT Certification required
