Job Description

This will be a hybrid role, with the expectations that the employee is able to report to the Hammond office according to schedule.

This position will be filled as an Accountant I or II.

Accountant I

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE: The Payroll Accountant will be responsible for payroll processing, review of processing work of other team members, and special projects. This position will also partner with stakeholder groups on joint initiatives to ensure accuracy and efficiency of payroll processes.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for all payroll-related processing activities
  • Review payroll processing of Payroll staff to ensure accuracy
  • Process and/or review payroll related tax wires, tax filing, and W-s’s
  • Respond to various audit requests / RFI’s from both external and internal customers
  • Partner and communicate with representatives from HR, Legal, Finance, IT, etc on payroll related matters/issues
  • Continuously drive process improvements and automation to enhance payroll processes
  • Quickly troubleshoot and resolve issues when they arise, address the root cause, and recommend opportunities for improvement
  • Query data to respond to adhoc requests; able to synthesize data to provide information to others
  • Lead and participate on special projects

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum education and experience required of the position Accountant I: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field and 1+ years’ experience in accounting or payroll processing. In lieu of degree minimum 5+ years’ experience in accounting or payroll processing is required.

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position

  • Some knowledge of payroll functions (HR, Payroll, or Payroll Controls) including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes
  • Experience in PeopleSoft HCM, Time and Labor, and Cognos preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (with an emphasis on Excel)
  • Experience in leading cross functional projects
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills with all levels of the organization
  • Flexible, organized, and detail oriented
  • Ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects or tasks
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong focus on process improvements
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

Accountant II
