Job Summary/Purpose

This position acts in a lead capacity among peers within a department in a technical discipline, short of supervisor, but with responsibilities on the same level of coordination and/or review. The position works in conjunction with other engineering and operation disciplines and is responsible for system functions such as alarm management support to operations, design and review engineering standards, ensuring quality deliverables, and participating in the technical workforce. Focus of the role will be design/construction of relay protection and controls components, emergency protection and operation support, alarm troubleshooting and resolution, lead initiatives, publish KPIs, and CIP, TPL and PRC compliance support.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Lead technical design and analysis of protection schemes, relay settings and system coordination for transmission and distribution systems.
  • Lead, manage and oversee CIP-014, TPL-001, PRC-006 reoccurring projects and any other initiatives ensuring timely completion.
  • Develop and manage workflows on remote relay settings implements, PRC-027 PGEN reviews. Assist engineers in being successful.
  • Serve as technical SME for complex protection issues, provide guidance to engineering, operations and field personnel.
  • Quality review root-cause analysis of misoperations, drive corrective actions and extent of conditions considering feasibility limitations and financial impacts.
  • Drive reliability improvements by identifying trends and leading actions and implementing solutions aligned with company’s objective.
  • Assist engineers on complex protection, compliance tasks ensuring timely delivery with quality.
  • Engage with internal and external customers via appropriate channels, on technical meetings and on reliability events with investigation findings.
  • Establish and enforce alarm management expectations between Design Basis, Capital Projects, IT, and Power Delivery to ensure alarms are meaningful, prioritized, and actionable.
  • Monitor and assess Alarm activities for SCADA system and assist engineers in identifying and troubleshooting persistent, nuisance, and critical alarms that pose threat to equipment or system reliability.
  • Lead and assist investigation on high priority or recurring critical alarms, engaging TCC and Field personnel, determining route cause and implementation corrective actions across engineering, operations and field organizations.
  • Coordinate with operations and field personnel to ensure alarms are acknowledged, escalated and resolved per the Alarm Management Procedure.
  • Drive construction group to resolve any new alarms triggered due to new projects or a change in existing configuration.
  • Support TCC & DOC Control Centers with alarm response guidance ensuring compliance with Entergy reliability standards and NERC requirements.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in engineering.

Minimum experience required of the position

  • Eng Sr. Staff: At least 12 years’ experience without PE or MS. Or 10 years of experience with PE or MS.
  • Eng Sr. Lead: At least 10 years’ of experience without PE or MS. Or 8 years of experience with PE or MS.

Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering with Relay and Protection focus area is preferred.

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and leadership behaviors.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology to transmission line and transmission/distribution substation design, construction and/or operations.
  • Advanced critical thinking skills and capability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Adept in complex problem solving; able to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position

  • Desired: PE License in ECE

Exempt employees may not be paid overtime associated with such duties.
