The Outage Planner Scheduler is responsible for performing complex aspects of individual project estimating, project and task planning, scheduling and change control documentation for generation outages, generation capital projects, and the coordination of multiple outage related activities for each unit. This position supports Generation Services, plant management, plant staff and Project Managers on projects and outages varying in size and complexity. This position requires knowledge and understanding of project control principles, including earned value management, expert level knowledge of various computer applications that provide analytics related to planning, scheduling and risk management; specifically Primavera P6, and expert level knowledge of power plant maintenance planning and scheduling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champions a corporate culture that emphasizes transparency, integrity, safety, environmental responsibility, employee development, diversity and inclusion, customer service, and operational excellence.
  • Plans, schedules and tracks power plant unit outages, capital projects, and large scale, high-cost strategic projects utilizing critical path scheduling methods, per industry best practices, to optimize unit availability and control maintenance expenses.
  • Owns the baseline schedule and updates key stakeholders with strategic and intuitive information.
  • Performs needed QA/QC on project and outage schedules to ensure alignment and compliance with strategic goals and initiatives.
  • Anticipates and understands the power plant and project development needs and balances with department goals.
  • Demonstrates interest in understanding how the position contributes to corporate profitability.
  • Promotes safe work practices that results in safety achievements consistent with corporate goals and objectives.
  • Leads and facilitates the power plant outage planning and outage stage gate process to ensure all outage scope is well defined, effectively planned and scheduled to optimize resource loading and outage available time, while also providing power plant management with dynamic information, reports, and tools for decision making as required to respond to unforeseen scope changes.
  • Generates, evaluates, and provides various project controls reports to plant management, Directors and the Vice President of generation.
  • Responsible for reporting on project status, performance variance and critical path analysis at a level appropriate for each outage.
  • Tracks and manages scope changes and schedule baselines.
  • Creates detailed job plans in SAP plant maintenance for outage tasks and projects to meet plant priorities and safety requirements.
  • Manages outage maintenance plans and maintenance items in SAP.
  • Works with power plant management and plant staff to develop and maintain a five year outage forecast in Primavera P6.
  • Provides hypothetically “what-if” schedule scenarios for complex and high schedule risk outages and projects.
  • Provides earned value analysis and other progress reporting functions.
  • Monitors and proactively provides input on issues impacting the outage or project.
  • Develops and maintains project and outage schedules, identifying relationships, logic, milestones, durations, constraints, and potential schedule risks.
  • Exhibits safety awareness and recognizes hazards, communicates with others to prevent accidents and unsafe acts.
  • Works as a team player and fosters collaboration with others in accomplishing targeted tasks along with providing training and sharing data.
  • Communicates and coordinates between individuals and departments to manage schedules and update progress.
  • Works independently with Generation Services and plant staff to develop project/outage scopes and reports on cost and schedule.
  • Coordinates and acts as liaison across multiple departments to ensure stakeholder buy-in to the project and outage schedule.
  • Run/manage schedule review meetings.
  • With knowledge of construction and O&M procedures and plant operations, works with many plant departments and other LOB’s to meet common goals.
  • Responds to plant schedules and plant management needs by adjusting workload priorities on multiple projects.
  • Works with a moderate level of guidance.
