The Field Distribution Specialist IV serves as a senior-level designer responsible for managing and executing complex electric distribution projects related to Department of Transportation (DOT) initiatives. This includes highway widening, road relocation, and other public infrastructure projects requiring utility relocation or adjustment. The Specialist IV ensures all designs meet company standards, DOT requirements, and NESC compliance while coordinating closely with external agencies, contractors, and internal teams.

  • Interpret DOT plans, road design drawings, and right-of-way maps to identify utility conflicts and develop compliant relocation solutions.
  • Conduct detailed field assessments to collect data, verify conditions, and ensure alignment with DOT construction schedules.
  • Prepare and review comprehensive design packages, including construction drawings, estimates, and material lists.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the client and DOT representatives, engineering firms, and contractors to ensure project accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery.
  • Review and respond to DOT project submittals, requests for information, and design revisions.
  • Assist coworkers and clients with obtaining and managing DOT permits when installing or working on electric utilities within DOT right-of-way, ensuring all documentation and procedures meet regulatory requirements.
  • Represent the company during DOT coordination, design review, and pre-construction meetings to communicate design intent, resolve conflicts, and ensure project alignment.
  • Ensure all designs adhere to NESC, company standards, and applicable DOT regulations.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior designers and field staff involved in DOT or relocation work.
  • Support project tracking, documentation, and reporting in accordance with company and DOT requirements.
  • Conduct safety audits and field verifications using the company’s standardized review method to ensure all work meets clearance and safety standards.
What You Bring:

  • Expert-level technical and regulatory knowledge.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Detail-oriented, analytical, and highly organized.
  • Leadership mindset with a focus on collaboration, safety, and quality.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple high-visibility projects simultaneously.
