The Port is seeking a skilled and motivated Port Crane Technician 1, 2, 3 or 4 to join our team. This position plays a critical role in maintaining, repairing, and safely operating ship-to-shore container cranes and rubber-tired gantry (RTG) cranes that support 24/7 port operations. Technicians perform a wide range of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and operational duties—from routine inspections to advanced troubleshooting of complex crane systems. Minimum Qualifications

One year of experience or training in the installation, maintenance, or repair of hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and/or electronic systems in either a commercial or industrial setting; OR One year of experience or training in the maintenance or repair of computer-driven heavy equipment.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: New employees must be able to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Safely operate and support port container cranes during vessel berthing, setup, testing, and maintenance activities, ensuring adherence to all safety and operational procedures.
  • Perform electrical maintenance and repair on ship-to-shore and rubber-tired gantry (RTG) cranes, including inspection, testing, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and replacement of complex electrical, electronic, PLC, drive, and communication systems using manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
  • Conduct mechanical, hydraulic, and facility maintenance, including inspection, repair, and replacement of crane structures, gearboxes, wire ropes, engines, hydraulic systems, and related equipment; assist and monitor contractors, support maintenance facilities, and respond to emergency and other assigned duties.

Position-Specific Details: Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Port Crane Technician 1, 2, 3 or 4 Work Schedule: Work hours are 12-hour shifts. Compensation: This position is eligible for premium pay of up to $2.31 per hour.
