About Lafitte Greenway Partnership

Lafitte Greenway Partnership (LGP) is a community-driven nonprofit that builds, programs, and promotes the Lafitte Greenway as a great public space. Our vision is a healthy and vibrant Greenway that connects people to nature, their destinations, and each other.

LGP was formed in early 2006 by New Orleans community members who saw an opportunity to rethink their community’s landscape to enhance livability, environmental sustainability, open space equity, health, and revitalization. In November 2015, the Lafitte Greenway opened as a 2.6 mile pedestrian and bike path and linear park, connecting French Quarter, Treme, Lafitte, Midcity, and Bayou St. John.

LGP currently leads a wide range of projects and programs on the Lafitte Greenway, including landscape management, green infrastructure, cultural arts events, programs for children and families, urban planning, economic development, and improving safety for cyclists and pedestrians who use the Greenway.

Ideal Candidate

LGP is seeking a highly motivated, extremely organized, mission-driven professional (see our equity statement on page 4) to join our team and support our entire portfolio of community-based projects and programs.

The responsibilities below are wide-ranging and cover several different domains. We are therefore looking for someone that has core competencies in the areas of project management/administration, irrespective of the types of projects previously managed/administered. For example, the ideal candidate may have a background in community organizing, program management, office administration, or other fields.

LGP is a small, mighty, and growing team. All team members, including the Executive Director, are expected to have a “whatever it takes” attitude and an eagerness to handle whichever projects/tasks are needed to execute our mission.

Project and Program Portfolio

The Project Manager will play a central role in advancing Lafitte Greenway Partnership’s mission by managing and coordinating a diverse portfolio of projects and programs. This position supports initiatives ranging from community programs and events to planning efforts and capital projects, ensuring work is well-scoped, coordinated, and delivered effectively.

The LGP Project Manager (PM) will work report directly to the Executive Director across three key program areas:

1) Landscape Management. This is a growing program area for LGP, and includes tree planting/maintenance, green infrastructure, rain gardens, community gardens, grass-cutting, and overall landscape maintenance on the Greenway. This work is performed by contractors and partners under contract with LGP; our PM will manage those contracts/projects to ensure excellence, accountability, and cost-effectiveness. The PM will report directly to the Executive Director for these projects.

2) Community Programming. LGP manages a year-round calendar of programming for the community, including live music performances, live theatre performances, murals and public art, movies in the park, outdoor fitness classes, and our marquee Supernova event every December. The PM will assist in administration of those programs directly administered by LGP, and help manage work performed through contractors/partners. For community programming projects/programs, the PM will work closely with the Director of Community Programming for these projects.

3) Community Development. LGP works to improve community infrastructure in and around the Greenway, including expanding the Lafitte Greenway, improving safety at key crossings, investing in stormwater management, and supporting legacy/residents businesses near the Greenway. The PM reports directly to the Executive Director on these projects.

Primary Responsibilities:

Project Administration - Manage budgets, timelines, contracts, and insurance requirements for all projects. Support outreach/engagement efforts for specific projects and programs. Represent LGP at meetings with project/program contractors including landscape installations, landscape maintenance, event production partners, and community partners.

Project Evaluation - Manage data collection and digital record-keeping for all programs and projects for comprehensive evaluation. Prepare written reports and briefings for funders, Executive Director, Board of Directors, and partners.

Partnership Development - Support Executive Director and Director of Community Programming to develop and maintain strong relationships and communications with partner organizations/stakeholders including City and government officials, other nonprofits, community organizations, businesses, and donors, to ensure program and project success. Manage responses to requests for new programs, projects, and events on the Greenway from potential partners.

Volunteer Coordination - Coordinate monthly volunteer events and incorporate those volunteers into our overall communications efforts with stakeholders.

In addition to these community-facing projects, the PM will also support internal projects such as fundraising campaigns, events for Greenway support, and office administration.

Minimum Requirements:

● At least 3 years of relevant professional work experience

● Outstanding interpersonal skills and track record of outstanding relationship management with partners, contractors, and stakeholders.

● Excellent project and program timeline management skills and experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.

● Highly organized and detail-oriented, able to work in a fast-moving, and changing environment.

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills

● Experience working with Google Suite (Drive, Gmail, GoogleDocs, GoogleSheets, GoogleSlides), Slack, Canva, and Asana

● An entrepreneurial spirit with a high degree of creativity, flexibility, problem-solving ability, and initiative.

● Self-motivated, results-driven, and energetic.

● Able to listen, lead, persuade, motivate, convey key messages, respect and diplomatically maintain positive relationships with a wide range of audiences and constituencies throughout the community.

● Passionate about our mission, and aligned with our values.

● Culturally sensitive and politically savvy.

● Experience with quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods.

● Ability to work on a non-traditional schedule that includes some evenings and weekends.

● Ability to lift 40 pounds to set up program equipment and supplies.

Our Commitment to Equity

The Lafitte Greenway, a 2.6 mile linear park connecting six neighborhoods from City Park to the French Quarter, features a premier walking and biking trail and is the outcome of a democratic, volunteer-led effort to create a community asset anchored in equity. Equity acknowledges the imbalance of resources and accessibility to opportunities and seeks to balance this disparity.

The Board of Directors of Friends of Lafitte Greenway (Board of Friends), which manages the Greenway in partnership with the New Orleans Recreation Development (NORD) Commission, recognizes that New Orleans’ history of racism and segregation is embedded in public and private institutions, the effects of which play out in many areas of society, including our public spaces.

The Board of Friends is committed to reversing disparities in access to green spaces by prioritizing equity within the organization and by ensuring we develop a public space open and welcoming to ALL. The Board of Friends will measure the success of its equitable development strategy against the following key elements:

Representation: Citizens of New Orleans are all stakeholders, as such, the board and staff of Friends shall welcome and reflect the communities surrounding the Lafitte Greenway trail, to ensure that the Greenway trail remains a shared public space.

Transparency: The board and staff of Friends will provide leadership, transparency, and accountability to stakeholders regarding the development and programming of the Lafitte Greenway.

Community Engagement: The board and staff of Friends will maintain open lines of communication with the neighboring communities to ensure that the community’s collective voice is heard, considered, and is factored into final board and executive decisions that directly impact the neighboring Greenway communities, or that impact the sustainability of a healthy public park system.

Impact: The board and staff of Friends will track its fulfillment of equity goals via our strategic plan and yearly organization reviews. The board and staff of Friends recognize that regular analysis and realignment of our vision and goals is an integral part of our growth and development.

An equitable Greenway is a gathering place accessible to everyone, and importantly, enjoyed by the surrounding diverse communities.
