Job Description

Position Summary

The Human Resources Consultant-Employee Relations/Senior supports both classified & unclassified employees, faculty, and senior leadership by providing strategic and tactical consultative advice and services regarding employee relations, policy development/interpretation, and administration of human resource policies and procedures.

Primary responsibilities include:
1. Advising and guiding employees and supervisors in Employee Relations issues through analyzing individual situations.
2. Determining appropriate interventions, such as, one on one counseling, coaching, or the development of individualized employee development tools.
3. Provides follow-up to ensure performance accountability; interventions aimed at improving the effectiveness of work teams, and supervisory development.
4. Serves as the factfinder and investigator for harassment and discrimination cases.

The scope of this role has responsibility for managing higher level and more complex and sensitive issues. The complexity of issues of this role includes consulting with the Campus Assistance Program on Administrative Referrals/Fitness for Duty determinations for faculty and unclassified/classified staff. It also includes consulting with the University Ombudsman to assist in resolved workplace conflicts. The incumbent will support senior leaders/managers/supervisors on performance matters.

The Human Resources Consultant-Employee Relations strives to support LSUHSC-NO’s commitment to supporting education and responding to employees with ADAAA accommodations.

Position may be filled as Consultant or Senior Consultant based on the applicant’s qualifications.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Psychology, or related field

2 years for Consultant, 5 years for Senior Consultant - Experience in resolving complex employee relations issues, including conducting investigations, interviewing, fact-finding, or preparing/report writing.

Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience.
