Job Description
Role: Success Coach

Son of a Saint exists to enhance the lives of fatherless young men through mentorship, emotional support, development of life skills, exposure to constructive experiences, and formation of positive, lasting peer-to-peer relationships. Son of a Saint equips young men with the tools they need to become productive men. We provide a secure and consistent environment for them, through which they find hope, vision, and opportunity. Son of a Saint mentors’ most important role is simply to be a good example.
Position Summary:
Son of a Saint is looking for a full-time Success Coach to join our team. This position will be responsible for guiding mentees through the program by building strong relationships, tracking individual progress, facilitating targeted follow-up, and serving as their advocate.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
● Engage directly with Mentees and Guardians to determine the personal and professional goals of individual mentees and identify potential challenges.
● Monitoring academic performance and providing responsive services to mentees on academic issues.
● Developing realistic and effective strategies toward realizing goals.
● Providing goal-oriented guidance and steps to success, as well as encouraging active participation.
● Facilitating follow-up sessions and integrating feedback.
● Performing progress assessments and utilizing motivation techniques.
● Encouraging mentees by recognizing milestones and mitigating challenges that hinder progress.
● Promoting success-enhancing cognitive, psychological, and physical habits and routines. ● Consulting and collaborating with school staff, guardians, and the programming team on mentees' progress, where relevant.
● Regularly documenting and reporting on the progress made and results obtained with mentees.
● Coordinating with other programming staff members to plan college and career-related programming.
● Supporting the education lead in departmental programming events, initiatives, and systems.
● Coordinating soft skills and academic workshops or sessions.
Organization-Wide Responsibilities and Duties:
● Support programming, development, and organization-wide initiatives by actively engaging in the following opportunities:
○ Quarterly board meetings
○ Fundraising and development events, grants, and initiatives
○ Programming events, activities, and initiatives
○ Staff leadership development and team building
○ Recruitment, selection, and onboarding
○ Cross-functional special projects
● Perform other agency and program-related duties as needed
Education/Experience:
● 1-3 years of experience working in education, job training, youth programming, or a related field
● Must possess experience in a collegiate environment or understanding of the academic culture and must have the ability to effectively interact with school faculty, Son of a Saint staff, young men, guardians, and school administrators.
● Driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation
● Experience working with middle school and/or high school students, incorporating cross-cultural competency to support and challenge them appropriately
● Education experience in a classroom or out-of-school setting
● Experience in the nonprofit sector is preferred
● Bachelor’s degree is required

Other Qualifications:
● Relatable to the interests and matters of teenage boys in New Orleans
● Experience working with diverse populations
● Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, Son of a Saint staff, guardians, agency representatives, and various members and groups from the community
● Knowledge of New Orleans schools and school systems preferred
● Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
● Excellent organizational skills and is able to work independently, proactively, and collaboratively with minimal supervision
● Ability to identify student issues and problems and initiate actions to solve these problems
● Ability to research and quickly develop knowledge of employer recruiting strategies, job market trends, occupational, career, and personal growth.

● Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
