Job Description
General Position Summary: Help students improve their basic English language: reading, writing, and verbal. The Adult Education ESL Instructor provides appropriate instruction for groups and individuals using materials, tools, equipment, and scenarios to meet students’ academic needs. Work with students to determine potential barriers to their success and work with them to implement solutions that ensure their success. Teaching may include face-to-face, online, day, or evening classes. Supervisor: Director of Adult Education Physical Demands: Lift up to 25 lbs. Work Environment: Frequent interaction with staff, students, and the public; Walking, sitting, standing, stooping, and bending
Starting Pay: $25 per hour Schedule:
- Tuesdays (4:30 pm to 8 pm)
- Thursdays (4:30 pm to 8 pm)
- Or as needed outside this schedule for special events, meetings, or to meet student needs
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited educational institution
- Two years of teaching experience
- Bilingual – English & Spanish
- Satisfactory background check
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited educational institution with a concentration in Education
- Two years of teaching experience with adult learners over the age of 18
Minimum Skills:
- Dependable – punctual
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to prioritize tasks – good time-management skills
- Ability to work effectively with peers, administrators, and others
- Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
Preferred Skills:
- Demonstrate proficiency in Canvas
Job Duties and Other Information
Essential Functions:
- Utilize and provide direct instruction through innovative, effective, and equitable teaching techniques
- Provide orientation and testing
- Ensure student records are accurate and complete
- Participates in developing, revising, and monitoring the implementation of the curriculum
- Assess levels of student achievement effectively, analyze test results, and prescribe actions for improvement
- Provide classroom instruction, feedback, and direct student learning using available technology
- Meet individually with students to determine skill level, industry experience, and education/training needs
- Guide students through assessments and create an individualized career plan
- Coordinate supports that will assist students with attendance and participation in program activities and make referrals to partnering agencies as appropriate
- Completes reports, collects data, and provides information for program monitoring as requested
- Meet all deadlines Attends staff development programs, curriculum development meetings, and other professional activities
- Keeps abreast of developments, research, and new technology.
- Participate in campus activities and recruitment
