CARPENTER

Carpenter – Must observe all Broadmoor safety protocol. Duties include but are not limited to building, erecting, installing, and repairs to structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, using carpenter’s hand tools and power tools. Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required, such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structures or fixture to be fabricated. Selects specified type of lumber or other materials. Prepares layout, using ruler, square, and calipers. Marks cutting and assembly lines on materials using pencil or chalk. Shapes materials to prescribed measurements, using saws, chisels, and planes. Assemblies cut and shaped materials and fasten them together with nails, dowel pins, or glue. Verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and carpenters level. Erects framework for structures and lays subflooring. Builds stairs and lays out and installs partitions and cabinet work. Installation of blocking and grounds as well as installation of architectural accessories. Applies shock-absorbing, sound-deadening, and decorative paneling to ceilings and walls. Fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, doorframes, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware, such as locks, letter drops, and kick plates. Constructs forms and chutes for placing concrete. Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level. Duties also include but are not limited to housekeeping at job site, checking safety protocol, laying out job materials according to plan, beginning of shift set-up and end of shift clean-up, etc.

Physical Requirements – Ability to work outdoors in extreme conditions, cold, heat, humidity, on rough terrain, in trenches, and frequently at heights. Also may be exposed to hazards associated with but not limited to dust, odors, fumes, noise, and vibration hazards.

Equipment Requirements – Able to work with drills, power saws, hammers, wrenches, and various types of hand tools. Must be trained prior to operating any type of saw (i.e. chainsaw, chop saw, cutoff saw, etc.).

Experience / Skills Required – Must have experience in the road or construction field, working outdoors in extreme weather conditions, able to read blueprints, perform simple mathematical equations, read a tape measure and understand simple directions.
