Job Description

JOB FUNCTION / SUMMARY: The Special Asset Manager 3 manages a portfolio of complex, high-risk commercial and middle market loans, including syndications and multi-state credits. The role is responsible for developing and executing recovery or rehabilitation strategies, negotiating directly with clients, and coordinating with legal, credit, and compliance partners to protect the bank’s interests.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Independently manage a portfolio of complex, distressed commercial credits, including large dollar and syndicated loans.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of borrower performance, collateral valuation, and repayment capacity.
  • Negotiate loan structures, restructures, or settlements with borrowers and advisors.
  • Coordinate workout strategies with legal, compliance, treasury, and portfolio management teams.
  • Monitor credit quality through financial reviews, risk ratings, underwriting, and timely reporting.
  • Initiate and manage legal actions for delinquent borrowers, coordinating with outside counsel.
  • Shadow and monitor deteriorating credits managed by Commercial or Middle Market Bankers prior to transfer.
  • Provide recommendations on recovery actions to management and loan committees.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 4 years in commercial lending, credit analysis, or asset management.
  • Extensive knowledge of credit underwriting, loan documentation, and financial analysis.
  • Experience with distressed loans and workout processes required.
  • Strong negotiation and client management skills.

ESSENTIAL MENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines
  • Ability to lift/move/carry approximately 20 pounds if required to perform the essential job functions. If the employee is unable to lift/move/carry this weight and can be accommodated without causing the department/division an “undue hardship” then the employee must be accommodated; hence omitting lifting/moving/carrying as a physical requirement.
