Description
Within the framework of the Loyola University New Orleans mission of educating the whole person, the head indoor and beach volleyball coach will fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the position. Responsibilities include but are not limited to recruiting and developing student athletes, and promoting the program to the institution’s stakeholders. This is a 12 month position.
Examples of Duties
- Serve as liaison to national and conference entities concerning rules and regulations governing indoor and beach volleyball
- Ensure that student-athletes and assistant coaches abide by all NAIA and conference rules and regulations.
- Collaborate with the Associate Athletic Director to complete department eligibility prior to established deadlines.
- Partner with the University’s Student Success Center to ensure student-athletes achieve academic success
- Provide leadership, organization, and supervision for all practices and contests.
- Implement and maintain standards of performance consistent with the University’s goals of academic and athletic performance.
- Assign assistant coach(es) specific coaching and administrative responsibilities.
- Organize and implement a recruiting program to attract outstanding student-athletes to attend Loyola University.
- Conduct the program within the rules and regulations of NAIA and the University.
- Manage the program within the parameters of an approved budget.
- Travel required for the purpose of competitions, recruiting, and representing the University at various functions.
- Coordinate with the Athletic Director:
- Budget requests
- Scheduling of games and practices
- Scheduling of referees
- Purchase and maintenance of equipment
- Appointment of assistant coach(es)
- Contest administration
- Facilities scheduling, repair and maintenance
- Eligibility
- Represent the University at various public functions including university meetings and speaking engagements.
- Coordinate fund raising projects for program with the Development Officer for Athletics.
- Coordinate scheduling of facility for volleyball activities with the Associate Athletic Director.
- Serve as liaison between University and indoor and beach volleyball facilities
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and Associate Athletic Director.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assume the duties of the university Campus Security Authority (CSA), including but not limited to, reporting crimes as defined through the Cleary Act and providing annual reporting statistics.
Typical Qualifications
- Minimum of a baccalaureate, master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of three years successful coaching experience.
- Expertise in technical aspects of volleyball.
- Ability to work effectively with college student-athletes, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the community.
- Must possess and maintain a current valid driver’s license as a condition of employment, and must also be able to successfully pass any driver background information investigation and any driver education courses required by Risk Management.
- A philosophy of intercollegiate athletics which places the highest emphasis on the pre-eminence of the academic mission of the institution and role of athletics as a part of the student’s total educational experience for both the student-athlete and the student non-athlete.
- A well developed personal system of ethical values that will be used as the basis for supervising and developing the intercollegiate program.
- Performance and conduct which is basically supportive of the principles and traditions of a Catholic, Jesuit higher education and the goals of the University.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to set up and take down the volleyball court, which include nets and standards.
- Must be able to lift, move, and carry up to 50lbs.
- Must be able to drive/transport athletes.
- Ability to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodations.
In accordance with the Campus Security Act as amended, Loyola University publishes annually and distributes to members of the academic community, and upon request to prospective (students/employees), an annual security report. That report includes current policies and procedures of the University Police Department for the reporting of campus crimes, notifying the campus community of occurrence of campus crimes, policies regarding access to campus buildings, the enforcement authority of the University Police Officers and their relationship to local police. University policies on the possession, use and sale of alcohol and illegal drugs are outlined. The Campus sexual Assault Program and policy is described. Campus crime statistics as defined under this law for the last three calendar years are included. A copy of this report may be secured from the (Office of Admissions), (Office of Human Resources), or from the University Police Department.
