Northshore Technical Community College is accepting applications for a full-time, unclassified, exempt, 12-month position domiciled at the Hammond Area Campus.

This is a grant funded position. Should the grant funds no longer be available and an alternate funding source is not determined, then position will be terminated.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Lead Instructor for the PN-to-ASN Bridge Program carries a 60% teaching load while also being responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating all aspects of the PN-to-ASN Bridge Program. This includes ensuring compliance with Louisiana State Board of Nursing (LSBN) and Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) standards; recruiting and advising students; developing and maintaining curriculum; coordinating faculty, clinical placements, and program resources; and tracking student outcomes. The Lead Instructor works closely with faculty, staff, students, clinical partners, and administration to promote program excellence and foster an inclusive learning environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a 60% instructional workload, including classroom, simulation, and clinical teaching.
  • Lead recruitment for the PN-to-ASN Bridge Program, including outreach at community events, high schools, and career fairs.
  • Participate in and assist with student orientation sessions, serving as a student advocate.
  • Advise students to ensure accurate and timely information about program requirements and progression.
  • Develop and maintain admission standards, curriculum, and Student Learning Outcomes for the PN-to-ASN Bridge Program.
  • Prepare course syllabi, requirements, and guides for approval.
  • Plan course calendars and clinical rotation schedules in collaboration with faculty.
  • Assist faculty in selecting course content, developing lesson plans, and planning teaching strategies.
  • Evaluate course content and teaching methods in relation to curriculum objectives and program philosophy.
  • Review student evaluation data each semester and implement improvements.
  • Coordinate course scheduling, faculty assignments, classroom space, and clinical placements.
  • Oversee and verify clinical compliance requirements (health records, drug screens, background checks) before clinical rotations.
  • Prepare and submit clinical affiliation requests each semester.
  • Coordinate evaluation of clinical sites and recommend placements.
  • Track and report LSBN-approved applications, NCLEX pass rates, attrition rates, and job placement data.
  • Prepare and submit LSBN Annual Reports and assist with ACEN accreditation reports.
  • Conduct rounds to observe clinical teaching and maintain expertise in areas of responsibility.
  • Mentor, orient, and evaluate faculty; provide formative and summative feedback.
  • Assist with curriculum reviews and continuous improvement initiatives to maintain program accreditation standards.
  • Maintain accurate program information in the college catalog and Canvas LMS.
  • Collaborate with PN and ASN faculty to ensure smooth academic and clinical transition for bridge students.
  • Assist students in identifying learning needs; counsel and refer them to appropriate resources.
  • Edit and review faculty-developed test questions and assist with exam analysis.
  • Establish systems for faculty-led test review and feedback.
  • Represent the program on curriculum and college committees.
  • Maintain open communication channels between students, faculty, and administration.
  • Review current literature and recommend instructional and library resource updates.
  • Incorporate insights from professional development into program planning.
  • Participate in relevant workshops, conventions, meetings, and grant activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Requirements: Registered Nurse with a Master’s of Science Degree in Nursing and a minimum of three years of nursing experience (LSBN BSN exception rule will not apply to this position). At least one of these three years must have been as a medical-surgical staff nurse/nurse generalist providing direct patient care. Must have a current Louisiana nursing license.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with curriculum development, accreditation processes, program coordination, and high-fidelity simulation.

Competency in Microsoft Office, student information systems, Canvas, and simulation software required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and occasionally to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, or balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work environment is typically moderate in noise level, with travel between campuses and clinical sites required. Flexible scheduling, including occasional evenings and weekends, is necessary.
