Job Description

Responsibilities:

The Bus Operator Cohort Training Program, a 10 week paid training program, is a pathway for applicants to become full time bus operators for SCPPS. This program will include training on the following areas:

• Applicants must complete a CDL physical before scheduling a CDL tests with the DMV. This physical will be pre-authorized and paid for by the SCPPS Transportation Department.

• Once each applicant successfully passes the DMV tests, the next phase of the training begins which includes classroom coursework (30 hours-bus training and defensive driving).

• The final portion includes 12 hours of hands-on bus training which includes a trainer and students.

• Successful completion of the entire training program will permit applicants to apply for part time operator positions immediately and open full-time benefited positions.


Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Successful criminal back ground and driving record check
  • Other district requirements, covered in the training program, are outlined below
    • Commercial Driver License Class B
    • School Bus, Passenger, and Air Brake Endorsements
    • 3rd Party Testing
    • 30 hour School Bus Defensive Driving
    • 12 hours on the bus training
    • LA Administrative Code, Title 28, Bulletin 119 “Louisiana School Transportation"
    • State of Louisiana Vehicle Code - LA Revised Statute 32

  • Successful completion of the entire training program will permit applicants to apply for part time operator positions immediately and open full-time benefited positions.

All costs associated with the bus operator training program will be covered by SCPPS.
