Job Description

This is shift work monitoring the LSUHSC-NO building mechanical and energy management system, making rounds to visually inspect building systems and making repairs as assigned.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION At a minimum possession of a 2nd class Stationary Engineer’s Certificate for steam boilers and a 2nd class Stationary Engineer’s Certificate for air conditioning. Must have EPA certification. Must have a valid driver’s license. This position is considered an essential personnel position and must be available to respond to campus emergencies after normal business hours and during campus closures. The employee may be assigned to the emergency team that remains on campus and or evacuates to an off-site location during emergency events, and expected to return to work after severe weather event or other emergencies. When personnel are requested to return by the Facilities Leadership. Must be available for scheduled shift work after regular working hours and during holidays. Knowledge of the operation, maintenance and repair of energy management systems. Skill in the operation, maintenance and repair of energy management systems. Ability to operate, maintain and repair energy management systems.

LSU Health New Orleans Division of Facility Services is seeking highly skilled applicants for the position of Operating Engineer Master (Building Systems). There are multiple vacancies. The starting rate of pay is $21.05 per hour and the 1st Quartile rate of pay is $25.26 with an additional $1 Longevity Pay, $2 Shift Differential and $3 weekend Pay for hours worked only. Rate of pay may be adjusted dependent upon applicants’ experience and qualifications. **_ _**Must be available for scheduled shift work after regular working hours and during holidays. Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • operates, monitors and controls system wide output
  • operates auxiliaries including firing up steam boilers, starting and stopping chillers, pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, refrigeration and HVAC equipment
  • makes hourly readings and enter on log sheets; performs chemical & softener tests; blows down boiler
  • maintains, inspects and repairs pumps, motors, control systems, piping, and other equipment used in mechanical systems
  • checks all equipment for proper fluid levels and operation before using
  • takes immediate action to personally stop unsafe acts if delay to inform supervisor may allow accident to occur
  • plan, price, and order materials necessary for repairs using proper facility purchasing rules/regulations
  • perform other related duties as required
