Job Description

POSITION TITLE Adjunct Medical Coding Instructor

APPOINTMENT Appointed by the Chancellor of the College upon recommendation of the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY Adjunct instructors may be assigned classes at any of the four River Parishes Community College campuses (Gonzales, Reserve, Plaquemine, and St. Charles), as determined by student need and institutional demand. Teaching needs may include face-to-face/online and/or evening classes. The pay for the position is contingent upon the hours and classes assigned. Adjunct instructors are currently paid at the rate of $800 per credit hour.

Minimum Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS Required:

  • An AHIMA recognized credential: CCS or CCS-P
  • Current knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS Level II Coding
  • Minimum 4 years of professional employment in HIM-related field
  • Satisfactory background check - an offer of employment is contingent on a satisfactory pre-employment background check

Preferred:

  • Associate’s degree or higher in an AHIMA accredited HIM-related field of study
  • Previous teaching experience
  • RHIA or RHIT preferred

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, deliver, revise, and teach Medical Coding courses
  • Meet College deadlines for attendance taking, grade submission, learning outcomes assessment reporting, and textbook adoptions.
  • Consult with other College faculty and staff on issues relevant to student success.
  • Monitor and document student performance.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to the River Parishes Community College Mission.
