Job Description

Director of Sponsored Research and Development

The LSU Cancer Center is seeking a Director of Sponsored Research and Development to lead a team of Grant Specialists and support Cancer Center members through the entire research funding lifecycle including proposal development, award management, compliance, and reporting.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Serving as the primary liaison between the Cancer Center and external funding agencies including federal, state, and private sector sponsors.
  • Supporting growth of the Cancer Center’s grant funding base through identification and communication of funding opportunities.
  • Overseeing and ensuring compliance with required grant reporting and administration by federal, state, and local entities.

The Director will work closely with the Contracts and Budget & Finance team and Pre and Post-award Grant Specialists to ensure that awards are properly reconciled to developed budgets, disbursement are in accordance with award stipulations, and reports are submitted timely to the Cancer Center Executive Leadership team.

The Director of Sponsored Research and Development will work closely with the LSU Cancer Center Business Manager to manage and audit the accounting and finance functions of the department’s federal, institutional, and private grants including accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, internal controls, assistance with annual audited financial statements, and accurate and timely government filings.

Excellent interpersonal skills are required to interact with researchers, clinicians and upper & lower administrative team members.

Essential Knowledge/Experience:

  • Knowledge of OMB Circular A-21 principles, fund management, and creating budgets, particularly with National Institute of Health agencies, is essential.
  • Experience working with federal granting agencies is preferred.
