Job Description


An IT technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of an organization's computer systems and networks. They serve as a primary point of contact for technical support, ensuring that technology runs smoothly and securely for all users. 

Core Responsibilities and Duties

  • Hardware and Software Management: Install, configure, and upgrade computer hardware (desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, mobile devices) and software applications.
  • Technical Support (Help Desk): Provide first-line technical support to internal staff (and sometimes external clients) via phone, email, remote access, or in-person visits to diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify, diagnose, and resolve hardware, software, and network problems efficiently to minimize downtime.
  • Network Maintenance: Assist with the setup, monitoring, and basic troubleshooting of network connectivity, including LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, routers, and switches.
  • Security and Data Management: Install and update antivirus and security software, manage user accounts and permissions (e.g., in Active Directory or Microsoft 365), and perform regular data backups and disaster recovery operations.
  • Documentation and Inventory: Maintain accurate records of IT equipment inventory, repairs, and procedures, and create user guides and technical documentation.
  • User Training: Provide guidance and orientation to users on how to operate new equipment or software effectively and safely. 

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • Technical Knowledge: Proficiency with various operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux), Microsoft Office Suite, and basic networking principles (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving abilities to find the root cause of issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical users in a clear and patient manner.
  • Customer Service: A customer-oriented attitude and strong interpersonal skills are essential for interacting with diverse colleagues and clients.
  • Organizational Skills: The ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and manage time efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
