Position Summary:

Son of a Saint is looking for an an experienced, strengths-based clinician to support the emotional, mental and social well being of the boys in our community-based program. This Mental Health Specialist will provide individual counseling as well as facilitate group therapy for boys processing similar experiences, such as grief and trauma. Whenever possible, the Mental Health Specialist will involve caregivers and families to provide psychoeducation, establish healthy boundaries, and open lines of communication. The Mental Health Specialist will respond to and support boys and families during crisis situations as they emerge. On an organizational level, this position will develop and improve our policies related to behavioral health and crisis intervention. 

The Mental Health Specialist works closely with the case manager and the program manager. This position will operate within the context of our holistic and individualized program, which includes mentorship, tutoring, tuition support, recreational activities, travel, and career development opportunities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct psychosocial interviews and initial assessments with youth and caregivers to identify strengths, needs, and appropriate interventions
  • Establish and maintain trusting therapeutic relationships with boys and families
  • Develop individualized treatment plans including goals and objectives
  • Provide therapy using evidence-based interventions and strong clinical skills
  • Maintain and document professional records in a timely manner
  • Respond to crisis situations 
  • Monitor progress through observation and information gathering
  • Review and modify treatment plans on a quarterly basis to ensure consistent progress in accordance with stated goals
  • Develop and improve organizational policies related to crisis response and mental health services
  • Facilitate trainings for mentors and caregivers related to youth wellbeing
  • Conduct assessments prior to client termination and write evaluative reports based on goal achievement
  • Experience working with adolescents is preferred
  • Collaborate with the clinical team to design and facilitate wellness events, psychoeducational groups, and enrichment activities that promote emotional, social, and physical wellbeing for mentees.
  • Collaborate regularly with mentors, case managers, and program staff to ensure alignment of therapeutic goals with overall program objectives.
  • Contribute to team learning by participating in case consultations, reflective supervision, and internal trainings to strengthen clinical and organizational practices

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in social work or counseling from an accredited institution
  • At least 3+ years of clinical experience with youth and families
  • Valid professional license: LCSW or LPC
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate verbally and in writing to individuals and groups
  • Driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation
  • Use cultural humility to effectively communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds and promote an inclusive environment
  • Successfully pass a background check


Job Type: Full time

This position requires flexible scheduling, after-hours support, and availability based on the needs of the boys and families.
