Summer Camp Counselor, First Tee – Greater New Orleans

Hourly/Part-time

Organization

First Tee — Greater New Orleans is a chapter of First Tee, an international non-profit youth

initiative. By seamlessly integrating the game of golf with a life skills curriculum, First Tee —

Greater New Orleans creates active learning experiences that build inner strength, self-

confidence, and resilience that kids can carry to everything they do. By engaging young

people in a combination of life skills, leadership, and golf activities, they also are exposed to

positive traits that will help them achieve success in life. In the process, participants become

valuable assets to their community.

Organizational Structure

The Summer Camp Counselor reports to the Summer Camp Coordinator. As a Counselor, you

will assist in supervising junior coaches and volunteers.

Job Summary

The Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for guiding and coaching young people to

become responsible future citizens and committed, active golfers. This is done so by

positively impacting their lives through the First Tee Program during summer camps by using

lesson plans and the First Tee Coach Building Blocks.

Duties and Responsibilities

● Maintain a professional and cordial attitude towards coaches, volunteers,

participants and their parents

● Become proficient in the delivery of First Tee lesson plans

● Model the First Tee Five Key Commitments and Coach Building Blocks

● Maintain consistent and regular attendance

● Commence and end scheduled summer camp activities on time

● Maintain and organize all equipment storage areas

● Keep accurate participant class attendance records

● Provide a fun and safe environment at all times

● Demonstrate exceptional communication skills

● Be charismatic, personable, and motivational in working with youth

● Attend staff meetings and complete the necessary Coach Trainings

Qualifications

● Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with youth and/or sports

● Knowledge of and interest in the First Tee program

● Charismatic, personable, and motivated to work with young people

● Strong written, verbal, organizational and interpersonal skills

● Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions for extended periods of time

● Frequently move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds for programs and events

● Graduation from an accredited high school

● All candidates will be required to pass a background check.

Preferred Skills

● First Tee alumni or recognized coach.

● Bachelor’s Degree in the area of sports administration, education, or similar field

● Skilled in all MS Office and Google Suite applications

● Proficient with technology and a variety of programs (First Tee App)

● Knowledge of the game of golf

Work Shifts

Tues-Fri, approx. 8am-4pm for scheduled summer camps: averages 20-30 hours per week.

Must be able to commit to a full program session.

Salary and Benefits

Pay range is $12/hour - $18/hour, based on training, experience and qualifications.
