Reports to: Director of Lower School

30 hours per week | December 2023 - June 2024  | Exempt


Position Summary

St. George’s is seeking an experienced French teacher to serve in a temporary capacity while our Early Childhood and Lower School French teacher is on sabbatical. This teacher will shadow our French teacher in December before taking on lead teaching responsibilities in January. St. George’s has small class sizes and emphasizes differentiation for our students’ strengths and challenges. We recognize that every child is a unique learner. He/She will report directly to the Director of Lower School and will also receive feedback and assignments from the Director of Early Childhood and the World Languages Department Chair.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach French classes to students in Early Childhood and Lower School (age 1 - 2nd grade).
  • Complete progress reports/report cards at the end of the school year.
  • Effectively communicate students’ progress and needs with parents and teaching team.
  • Provide ongoing informal assessments to determine student abilities.
  • Manage time to meet deadlines and adhere to a daily schedule and structure classes to maximize opportunities for student learning.
  • Foster student learning by including students in their educational plans.
  • Lead students to use their own critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Guide classroom behavior through respect and a positive approach.
  • Collaborate with art teachers and administrators to plan and produce on-campus art shows.
  • Attend biweekly Lower School and monthly World Languages Department meetings.
  • Complete professional development hours in Early Childhood education in order to be in good standing with state licensing protocols.
  • Be an active member in the life of the St. George’s community.


Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood or elementary education required; teaching certificate preferred
  • Fluency in the French language required
  • At least two years of experience working with children
  • Knowledge of French curricula and assessments and an ability to create and develop age-appropriate curricula and assessments
  • Proficiency with Google Suite and technology-based educational tools
  • Ability to work well in a team and collaborate 
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills which prove effective in communicating with parents and establishing a team approach with the child’s family
  • Excellent knowledge of child development, latest education theories and practices and current trends in education and professional development
  • A desire to respond to and initiate the solving of problems through clear and open conversation
  • Openness to feedback and ability to take risks
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to an evolving program


Working Conditions / Physical Demands:

  • Must be physically able to operate computers and office equipment.
  • Occasional bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling and twisting; constant walking, speaking and listening; frequent sitting, often on the floor.
  • Occasional lifting up to 40lbs.
