Job Description
Executive Director
The New Orleans Academy of Ophthalmology (NOAO) is seeking a self-starter to run its membership organization whose mission is to promote ophthalmic education through conferences, speaker series, and seminars. Reporting to NOAO’s Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for planning and implementing all Continuing Medical Educational activities, maintain NOAO’s re-accreditation, maintaining and strengthening membership, managing all financial and operational activities. Supervises a part-time program coordinator. Position is located in New Orleans, much of the work can be handled through telework, there is occasional travel required to attend at least two Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) national conferences.
Core Responsibilities:
Plans and Implements Continuing Medical Education Activities- NOAO’s primary role is to provide relevant and accredited educational programming for ophthalmologists, technicians and their staff. The Executive Director is responsible for working with the Board to plan and execute all elements of annual 2.5-day symposium for a national audience with over300 attendees as well as 2-day annual training for technicians as well as quarterly training opportunities. Planning requires familiarity with ACCME requirements, creating learning objectives, and conducting due diligence to identify topics and speakers which are germane to the interest of NOAO’s membership. The position is responsible for identifying, speakers, preparing biographies, developing the symposium schedule and brochure in addition to initiating and approving all contracts with vendors and exhibitors for all training events.
Member Stewardship-The Executive Director is responsible for developing and enacting strategies to maintain and grow NOAO’s membership. Accountable for maintaining membership database and providing timely and personal communication with members.
Board Liaison- Staff liaison to the Board of Directors, all standing and sub-committees. Attend all Board meetings providing direction on Continuing Medical Education guidelines and bylaw revisions, prepares all Board and committee meeting packets and ensures proper orientation and training of Board members.
Financial Management- Responsible for growing and managing the five revenue streams of NOAO; membership dues, conference registration, exhibitor fees, grants, and donations. Plans and executes the organization’s budget as well as conference and training event budgets. Maintains organization’s QuickBooks, tracks dues collections and vendor payments. Reconciles accounts and assists with annual audits.
Office Management- Supervises the work of the Program Coordinator who is responsible for NOAO’s social media, data entry for the symposium and other training events, logistical support, preparing NOAO correspondence and training events registration and brochures for review.
Qualifications:
Required: Bachelor’s degree in management, education, or a related field and at least 3 years’ of administrative experience or a Master’s degree in a related field and proven experience in administration and management. Previous supervisory experience required.
Proficient in Microsoft Suite and QuickBooks and Customer Relationship Management Systems.

Salary range $55,000 -$60,000, monthly health care allowance, IRA contribution sick, and annual leave provided.
