Job Description

Highly responsible technical and analytical work of a specialized nature providing technical and project management support for the Project Management Office (PMO).  This position will be responsible for managing the PMO processes for managing projects, project deliverables, and reporting project performance metrics. Work also includes:


  • Monitoring project milestones/critical paths and communicating with project leads on the status of projects to ensure timelines are met.
  • Integrating cybersecurity measures into project planning and execution to protect against cyber threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Managing issues, risks, and constraints to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Facilitating weekly project status meetings and reporting up-to-date and accurate data on project performances to project stakeholders.
  • Determining the best project approach and methodology that best suits the task requirements and customer's expectations.
  • Continually looking for process improvements to support ongoing quality project management.

A. Minimum Qualifications and Skills Required by Department: A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Information Systems (CIS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Engineering, Telecommunications, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university* AND five (5) years of progressively responsible technical experience (e.g., project management, systems administration, database administration, applications, security, networks administration) in a progressive IT organization, data processing management, or in a technology program. Three (3) years of this experience must have included project management.  OR:  Eight (8) years of progressively responsible technical experience (e.g., project management, systems administration, database administration, applications, security, networks administration) in a progressive IT organization, data processing management, or in a technology program.  Six (6) years of this experience must have included project management.  All related previous experience will be considered for qualification purposes; however, credit on the rating of training experience will only be given for related experience gained within the last ten (10) years. 

 B. Other Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies: Previous experience in local, state, and federal government is preferred but not required. Project Management Professional (PMP) or other relevant certifications are preferred. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Change management expertise to handle project scope changes effectively. Familiarity with Agile and Scrum methodologies (for IT or software development projects). Negotiation and conflict resolution abilities. Interpersonal skills. A customer-centric approach to understanding and meeting client needs. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  

C. Additional Responsibilities: Stay updated on emerging technologies and trends relevant to the IT field. Ensure that IT projects adhere to security standards and compliance requirements, including data protection regulations, and industry-specific standards affecting local, state, and federal.  Assess the potential impact of emerging technologies such as AI, IoT, and blockchain on IT projects and business processes.

DOMICILE REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT: Domicile requirements for new full-time employees hired into this classification on or after January 1, 2013, must be domiciled in Orleans Parish within 180 days of hire.
