Job Description

As a successful Occupational Therapist you will work with the Student Support team to provide quality school-based occupational therapy services, which includes: assessment, diagnosis, and treatment occupational therapy related needs in children. The Occupational Therapist is a member of the IEP team and is responsible for developing appropriate IEP goals to meet student needs; communicating with teachers, parents, and related service providers; and ensuring that student goals are addressed in and/or outside of the classroom.  

Position Description and Expectations

  • Conducting assessments and evaluations in accordance with parent/guardian and student rights and Louisiana Bulletin 1508 if qualified.
  • Using a variety of appropriate tools and techniques to evaluate and report student progress.
  • Utilizing purposeful activities that support goals and increase access in the general education setting.
  • Providing services to students in ways that build upon individual strengths and offering students opportunities to participate in their own learning experience.
  • Participating as an active IEP team member in IEP meetings.
  • Preparing and maintaining accurate records and progress notes.
  • Educating and demonstrating therapy techniques to parents that can be incorporated into the home.
  • Effectively communicating with school administrators, teachers, student service personnel, and parents regarding student performance and plans for improvement.
  • Knowledge and skill to develop treatment plans that address, but are not limited to: child development, muscle tone, range of motion, orthopedic/splinting needs; movement analysis; visual motor skills; visual perceptual skills; sensory motor processing; neuromuscular skills; social skills; functional skills; and activities of daily living



Qualifications

  • Professional licensure and Louisiana certification in occupational therapy
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple caseloads of students
  • Successfully works collaboratively with a team of adults 
  • Communicates regularly with parents, faculty and staff
