REGIONAL MATERNAL & CHILD HEALTH (MCH) COORDINATOR
Supervised by: MCH Coordinator Supervisor
This Regional MCH Coordinator works in the regional Office of Public Health (OPH), Bureau of Family Health (BFH) toward improving maternal, infant, and child mortality and morbidity rates. A crucial role for the position is to identify and maintain active relationships with partners across sectors and work to align them around a shared vision of healthy, injury-free families across Louisiana. The Regional MCH Coordinator is responsible for convening meetings of regional Case Review and Community Action and Advisory Teams. These teams identify health system interventions and policy improvements to develop a comprehensive approach to addressing family health and welfare issues, while recognizing the inter-relatedness of multiple risk factors in prevention planning.
Coordination & Collaboration
Coordinate regional initiatives through organized efforts to reduce infant mortality and prevent injuries of mothers within a year postpartum and children under 15 years of age.
Coordinate regional contributions to the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) efforts to improve birth outcomes and reduce infant, child, and maternal mortality.
Develop, maintain, and coordinate the Fetal and Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) Case Review Team (CRT) to review fetal and infant deaths in the community, identify issues and risk factors, and recommend interventions to address the identified issues and risk factors, as directed by the BFH.
Develop, maintain, and coordinate Child Death Review Panels (CDRPs) to review unexpected deaths in children under 15 in the community, identify issues and risk factors, and recommend interventions to address the identified issues and risk factors, as directed by the BFH. Candidate will also act as the liaison between the local and the state CDRPs.
Abstract and prepare narratives for Pregnancy Associated Mortality Review (PAMR) committee meetings to include data collection and case development necessary to review maternal deaths in the community, identify issues and risk factors, and recommend intervention to address the identified issues and risk factors, as directed by the BFH.
Develop strategic and operational plans for the region.
Provide linkages between hospitals, private physicians, coroners, community, and public health to address infant and maternal mortality in the region.
Develop partnerships with regional and local stakeholders to collaborate around child safety/injury prevention and fetal and infant mortality reduction policies and initiatives.
Collaborate with Regional MCH Coordinator colleagues on statewide projects and initiatives.
Prepare written reports as required, including but not limited to those that summarize education, training activities, and collaborative initiatives related to fetal -infant mortality reduction, child Louisiana Department of Health • Office of Public Health • Bureau of Family Health safety/injury prevention, and protection of the health of families.
Communicate local observations, needs, and concerns to Maternal Child Health Coordinator Supervisor as they arise for consideration at state level councils.
Comply with all federal reporting guidelines and requirements as designated by OPH.
Data Surveillance Monitoring
Timely abstract all regional cases of unexpected child deaths under the age of 15, qualifying fetal and infant deaths, and maternal deaths within one year post-partum (as directed).
Manage data collected for and used in the review of cases, both manually and electronically.
Regularly update a database with: cases abstracted, interviews conducted (if applicable), priority needs identified and/or addressed, CRT/CAAT members, recommendations, and action items.
Assess the effectiveness, accessibility, and quality of individual and population-based services by the collection and maintenance of data.
Ensure appropriate security and confidentiality of data.
Data to Action
Develop, maintain, and coordinate the regional Community Advisory & Action Team (CAAT) in conjunction with regional MIECHV (Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting) staff and work within the community to develop and support action processes in accordance with protocols as defined by the BFH. (Quarterly, or as needed, CAAT meetings will serve to share findings from the FIMR,CDR, and PAMR meetings and identify health system interventions with key stakeholders in the community.)
Distribute materials, policies and procedures, and trainings as requested by the BFH.
Implement regional programmatic activities as directed by the BFH.
Maintain a community resource inventory of regional and parish community agencies involved with the
MCH population.
Serve as a regional point person for BFH health communications and public relations activities.
Provide guidance to the region as needed for the dissemination of the State’s emergency preparedness
plan as it pertains to the MCH population.
Participate in BFH emergency response activities as requested.
Qualifications:
Experience reading and interpreting medical records a must
Must carry a valid RN license
Two years of experience in Maternal and Child Health or Public Health nursing
Ability to work alone AND on a statewide team
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong computer skills, with particular competency in the Microsoft Office Suite and web browsing
Strong self-direction and organization skills
Ability to travel and access to a means of reliable transportation
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $57,408.00 - $80,350.00 per year
