General Position Description

The New Orleans Center for Creative Arts's Academic Program, the Academic Studio, is an innovative teaching and learning environment dedicated to the intellectual growth of young artists. It has consistently been rated as an "A" school by the State of Louisiana. NOCCA is the State of Louisiana's Conservatory for the Arts, and it serves students from across the state.

NOCCA’s Academic Studio develops in young artists and intellectuals a deep understanding of human history, expressive culture, scientific thought, and mathematical reasoning. Our curriculum equips students with the skills necessary to imagine, measure, analyze, and articulate their place in the world. Students leave the program with the ability to gather and analyze data, solve complex problems, think creatively, write convincingly, and reason abstractly.

Academic Studio core courses are fundamentally interdisciplinary: lessons and units build competence in the traditional high school disciplines of mathematics, natural sciences, English, and social studies, but they also make important connections across disciplinary lines, including the arts disciplines, to demonstrate the power of creative thinking and innovative problem-solving.

Academic Studio core courses are team-taught through project-based and inquiry-based methods. As teachers and mentors to individual students, Academic Studio faculty members model integrity and demonstrate high ethical standards. As leaders and colleagues, teachers also foster positive interactions and relationships with parents, faculty, administration, and staff. Academic Studio faculty members embrace a dynamic, fast-paced school environment characterized by continuous growth and innovation.
